Wow, Ronald Kurniawan is talented. There is some new work in his portfolio and it is just absolutely amazing.
A little more about Ronald:
“Ronald Kurniawan graduated with honors from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Inspired by ideograms, syllables, letterforms, beasts and heroic landscapes, he slowly but surely continues to create a visual language where the wilderness and civilization could merge happily together. With the belief that the sublime and nuclear age could coexist, he paints romantic environments and breaks the quiet scene with juxtaposed imagery taking the shape of icons and letterforms. He currently lives and works in Los Angeles where he paints meticulously and happily accompanied by his pug Ruffles, an avid artist himself.”
Cypher 13 (the guys behind Joyengine) have moved the remaining toys from their Soft and Furry exhibition into their storefront where you can now place your order. There are some pretty cool custom toys in there by some notable artists and designers.
I am really really loving what is happening at Antoine And Manuel, especially this series of collages. It appears there are some updates there, even if there hasn’t been, it is worth another visit.
Comments Off on Village Pet Store And Charcoal GrillArt
“A tiny little pet store quietly opened four days ago at 89 7th Avenue between West 4th and Bleeker Street in the West Village of New York City. Inside, McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets sip barbecue sauce. A rabbit puts on her makeup. A CCTV camera nurtures its young. Breaded fish swim in a large round bowl while hot dogs live the high life under heat lamps in cages near the cash register.
The store is the newest exhibit by famed graf artist, Banksy. This is the first time that Banksy has used animatronics, and the effect is absolutely amazing. Starting the moment you read this, until October 31st (Halloween), Banksy’s pet store is officially open each and every daily from 10am until midnight.
Banksy says about the show: “New Yorkers don’t care about art, they care about pets. So I’m exhibiting them instead. I wanted to make art that questioned our relationship with animals and the ethics and sustainability of factory farming, but it ended up as chicken nuggets singing. I took all the money I made exploiting an animal in my last show and used it to fund a new show about the exploitation of animals. If its art and you can see it from the street, I guess it could still be considered street art.”
You can see more at the Wooster Collective. Crazy crazy crazy (like a fox).
Amazing sculptures by the incredibly talented Kevin Francis Gray at the Goff & Rosenthal in New York. I am sure the work is every bit as stunning in person, so if you are fortunate enough to live in NYC, it is probably worth stopping by and checking out.
Alakazam is getting crazy with the cheez-whiz if you know what I’m saying. Crazy prints, t-shirts, zines and art exhibitions. Seizure inducing yet radically wild art goodness.
Comments Off on Richard May: Retrospective FolioIllustration
Richard May has posted a retrospective portfolio of work archived over the last decade on Flickr. There are some really stunning works of art in design and it is well worth a visit for the inspiration alone. Stunning work. Simple and beautiful.
“It’s far from comprehensive, because I also produced a whole heap of crap to five-minute deadlines, all of which has either been thrown away or confined to dusty CDs in the garage. I’ll be updating from time to time, as and when I find stuff worth posting.”
Chris Dent was kind enough to write me about his work: “Chris Dent has made huge strides since graduating from Camberwell College of Arts.At 23 he is quickly earning a status and has had recognition from Paul Insect who selected Chris as one of his top 3 young illustrators in the UK. His intricate pen work explores the energy of street culture through densely informative drawings of cityscapes.”
Alejandro Chavetta spends his days art directing San Francisco Magazine and the hours after making his deadlines creating some really interesting collages. The results of which you can currently see in his Behance portfolio.
There is a new Depthcore pack up for your viewing pleasure. This pack is based on the concept ‘Noir’ and all the imagery is in black and white. I am a huge fan of working only in black and white and there are some really attractive images in this particular pack. Enjoy.
I have to admit, Siggeir M. Hafstensson’s halftone works on canvas are hands down some of the best works of design melded with art that I have found in quite some time. There are so many of them and every single one stands on it’s own as a unique work of contemporary art and design. They are just brilliant and it was impossible to choose just one to represent such an enormous and fantastic body of work. I love this kind of stuff and it was sheer pleasure looking through it.
I guess what I am trying to say, in so many words, is that I liked his work.
Marcelo Daldoce apparently sometimes paints with wine but he also incorporates some really interesting letter style into his paintings and he doesn’t shy away from using the female form.
