Speedy JVW is Chicago based t-shirt illustrator Joe Van Wetering and he’s got some fun stuff happening in his Flickrfolio which isn’t surprising because he looks like a fun guy too.

The first solo exhibition of Coarse titled ‘Glimpse of Truth’ goes on display July 16th at the Rotofugi Gallery in Chicago. It looks pretty promising if you can make to to the show. Coarse crafts unique vinyl figures that draw influence from both Eastern and Western cultures. The ‘toys’ combine geometric forms with animated sculptural figures. You can find out more about the show at Coarse’s website.
Chicago based illustrator and graphic designer David Cuesta has some super fun vector illustration work in his Behance-folio. The series of images draws influence from street art and cartoons making it impossible not to like.
‘Fun’ is pretty much the operative word when describing the work of Mike Dornseif. However, he is equally equipped to get serious when it comes to logo design.
Onetime Changethethought Editor Luke Williams has stayed busy since moving to Chicago after graduating from the Maryland Institute College of Art. He has recently been picking up the camera with more frequency to capture some interesting image studies including the one above. I had no idea how creepy tongues could be.
Chicago gig poster makers Delicious Design League have updated with a new website and online store bursting with fantastic posters. Strangely the site still has no portfolio section completed but you can still see a lot of the work via the storefront.
Ali Sandifer Studio is a modern furniture maker based out of Chicago, Illinois. Sandifer uses domestic wood harvested from sustainable forests. To further their environmentally sustainable ethos, whenever possible they use water-based sealants and natural oils. Storage is a key feature for several of their undeniably beautiful pieces.
Artist C.J. Pyle has created some unusual surrealist portraits drawn on old LP record sleeves with ink, colored pencils and graphite. The end result of his work is soft and billowy in some areas and highly textural in others, which no doubt would require some meticulous detail. You can view his work at the Hammer Gallery website.

Brett is a Girl is a Chicago-based artist and illustrator who obviously loves to draw but also loves coffee, chocolate, cats, and 1960’s tunes.
Our sometime contributor, Luke Williams (who is [to his credit] too humble and kind to post this himself) has updated with both a new website and some very adept new work. He is growing as a designer and his work just keeps getting better. Kudos Luke and keep up the great work my friend. There is no better blessing than seeing good people do good work.
There is some really great use of typography in the gig posters designed by Chicago-based Nadine Nakanishi and Nick Butcher of Sonnenzimmer. They are very different from the normal gig-poster fare and it’s nice to see a departure from that scene (although I do love me some good ole old school crazy drawn gig-posters).

Wow, some really nice work coming out of the windy city from Some Odd Pilot. I love the ‘view all’ options on their website as well.
Here is a little more about them from their about section:
“Founded in 1999, Someoddpilot has earned a reputation for the blending of original photography, handmade typography, illustration and digital effects to produce internationally recognized graphic arts, web development & branding.
We have provided services for international brands, small to large corporations, artists, musicians and numerous culturally significant institutions (including branding, building and designing Pitchforkmedia.com, the world’s most-read music editorial publication). We are a proud supporter of the independent music and arts communities, as our portfolio will attest.
Located in Chicago – America’s bike-friendliest city – we are an agency of A-list, talent-only & car-less members. This puts us in the position to be flexible, experimental, responsive, fast and often in harm’s way. We’ve been in business for 10 years, which is somewhat uncommon in the strata of small graphics and web development firms, and it is something that we believe speaks to our dedication and to the unique position we occupy within the community.”
Jesse Hora has updated his site with some interesting new work.
