Nathan Fox was born in Washington D.C. and raised from the age of 5 in suburban Houston. After a steady diet of cartoons, commercials and video games etched itself permanently into his subconscious he moved himself to Missouri to attend the Kansas Art Institute.
It was there he discovered Anime, sideshows and comics that lead him to land firmly in his mish-mashed yet original style. After graduating from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1997 he pursued a career in illustration in Milwaukee. It was at this time that he joined and collaborated with the art and illustrator group MACHISMO which become a popular staple in the alternative gallery scene in Kansas city. Frustrated with a slow career in illustration and a day job as an offset pressman he packed his belongings and convinced his wife to make the big move with him to New York City. In 2000 he began attending The School of Visual Arts Illustration As Visual Essay Program. Those 2 years served him better as he has worked as a freelance illustrator ever since.
His work has since appeared in Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Interview, The New Yorker, ESPN, Wired, Print, Spin, Mad Magazine, DC Comics and several other publications of note.
Fatherhood brought him back to Milwaukee in 2005 where he now resides with his wife and daughter. He is also now represented by Bernstein & Andriulli.
His new site isn’t quite completed as you will notice with the denotation ‘coming soon’ under almost every image and informational button. Despite this you will find a huge archive of his work in the right nav on his site that goes back through archives of his work all the way to 2000. It’s a great website with even better work and you can definitely fall into a void of inspiration there that you might not come out of for a good half hour or so. It’s an excellent body of work. It’s timely and illustrates our generations pop-saturated persona to the letter.
