Above is his latest creation and below his earlier sculptures.
Joshua Allen Harris is a NYC street artist who has been constructing some extremely unusual sculptures out of plastic bags that he attaches to the above ground vents of the city subway. When the train passes by underneath a gust of air rushes up through the vents filling and breathing life into the sculptures. You can see more of them in action at Wooster Collective. It’s an interesting combination of art and environment. I love the concept and I love that it stops people in their tracks and makes them think about where they are. It’s great when art can pull people into the moment and force them into the here and now, if only for a moment.
Here is the ‘about’ copy from Qian Qian’s website:
“Qian Qian (b. 1979) is a multi-disciplinary designer, illustrator and art director from China, now living and working in New York City. One of the “20 under 30 New Visual Artists” by Print magazine, he has worked with a wide range of clients, including Nike, Panasonic, Shiseido, Motorola, and British Council. His work has been published and exhibited internationally. He has a Masters degree in digital media design from the University of Edinburgh, UK, and had taught graphic design at Missouri State University, USA. In 2005, He initiated and co-curated Get It Louder, a large-scale tour exhibition in China. He was also a judge for 86th ADC Annual Awards.“
Hope Gangloff is a New York based artist and illustrator who was Educated at Cooper Union. Her usually ballpoint executed illustrations carry an off-the-street kind of New York grit depicting various scenes of hip debauchery to still lifes of books and roadside views. She has an enormous amount of imagery available at her site, ready to be absorbed by any would be hipster art lover or NYC scenster. Her work is a study in ‘cool’ and stands as a catalog of an era. She has exhibited in several galleries and is represented by the Art Department.
There isn’t much I can gather about Nikolay Saveliev from his website. It has no ‘about’ or ‘CV’ section with which to learn where he came from or where he might be going. It appears he is located in New York. His work does all the talking on his website and it speaks volumes about his talent.
New York City Art Director Jesse Kaczmarek, originally hailing from Minnesota because the Midwest is Best has some really stunning work at his very silky Flash website. I had him pegged before Christmas but was lazy at getting him up on the blog. His work is genuinely inspiring though and it is great to see someone who reduces to simplicity as opposed to adding to much decoration. I am often guilty of the latter.
