Rethink Scholarship

Comments Off on Rethink ScholarshipGraphic Design

The Rethink Scholarship is an $18,000 scholarship for aspiring art directors and designers to Langara College’s Communication and Ideation Design program. The winner will also receive a 3-month internship with Rethink.

Contestants are asked to fill a sketchbook in any way they want, or take it apart and rebuild it into something totally different. The book should both demonstrate who you are while the same time showcasing your abilities as a creative. The sketchbook should not exceed 250 pages in length but bear in mind that a few great concepts is better than a pile of mediocre ideas.

Grafik Design Awards 2010 Launches to Celebrate Stars of UK Graphic Design Grafik Magazine, the UK’s only monthly magazine devoted entirely to graphic design is to launch its own awards scheme. The first Grafik Design Awards is open for entries at www.awards.grafikmag.com with a closing date of 31 January 2010. The awards event itself will take place 29 April 2010.

The Grafik Design Awards launches as the only UK awards dedicated solely to graphic design. The judging panel is made up of a combination of respected designers who represent a variety of disciplines and non-UK designers and non-designers who have a great understanding of the graphic design industry. Judges are: ANGHARAD LEWIS, WIM CROUWEL, NICK ROOPE, EMILY KING, EVA RUCKI, PETER SAVILLE, CAROLINE ROBERTS, BEN PARKER, KATE MOROSS, SARA DE BONDT, PHIL BAINES and MARINA WILLER.

Entry for one piece of work costs £50 and £25 for additional entries thereafter with a free three month subscription to Grafik magazine included in the entry fee. There are no categories; any work that is graphic-related and represents the broad spectrum of talent in the UK graphic design industry will be considered. It is open to all: individual designers, design groups, students, artists or companies. A total of ten projects will receive an award, with a coveted Grafik Design Awards Trophy also being awarded to ‘Best Newcomer’ to be judged and awarded by Peter Saville, and ‘Best Studio’ to be judge and awarded by Wim Crowel.”

This sounds like a pretty remarkable opportunity to get your work (if you live in the UK) in front of an amazing panel of judges. Thank you for the note Richard.

55dsl Logo Remix

Comments Off on 55dsl Logo RemixGraphic Design

55dsllogoremix.jpg

55DSL emailed me about this a while back and I have been getting some emails from other readers about it as well. I thought I would post it since it might be a nice little way for someone talented out there to pocket a little cash for the holidays and get your work in front of some pretty savvy people:

With the imminence of 55DSL’s 15th anniversary in 2009, 55DSL is ready to celebrate the unique mix of attitude and aesthetics it has made all its own. To do so, 55DSL has turned to the input of design company Cut&Paste’s own culturally diverse, design-savvy, and urban-centric global audience through the 55DSL Logo Remix contest.

THE CHALLENGE: to revamp the iconic 55DSL Shield logo, spinning it into a visual remix that reflects 55DSL’s culture and spirit.

Contestant’s designs submitted to logoremix.55DSL.com will be evaluated by a distinguished panel of 8 international judges, ranging from acclaimed graffiti artist Emit to 55DSL’s very own creative director Andrea Ross, who will select the top 5 submissions. The Grand Prize winner will receive a receive 1,055 Euros award and see his/her logo design produced by 55DSL on a T-shirt for the 2010 Spring/Summer collection.

There will also be a People’s Choice Price for the contestant whose design receives the most votes via the online gallery who will win a special 55DSL goodie bag filled with items from 55DSL’s limited edition collections.

All entries must be submitted no later than 11:59pm PST on December 5, 2008 and online voting will remain open through December 12, 2008.
