Wow. I am not entirely sure if this is an official music video or what exactly it is for, you can read more about it here at the Vimeo page. Either way, I think my brain kind of melted a little while I was watching it.
This is something you don’t see much of. A video animated entirely from chalk drawings. The video was directed by Lucinda Schreiber and Yanni Kronenberg for the Firekites single ‘Autumn Story’. Beautiful song as well.
Shilo developed this video, which recently aired at the F5 Festival for BrotherSister’s single ‘Still Run’ off of their new album ‘The Wunder Tales’.
The making of the video was quite an ordeal. Here is Shilo’s Creative Director Andre Stringer on the process of producing the video:
“After listening to the record, I just fell in love with the poetry of the song and lyrics,” Stringer began. “For the video, I wanted to explore the idea of perseverance through change and adversity, and we found a way to take that idea to an epic scale by using one seamless shot where a person runs though time and space. We began by shooting a five-second test of the guy running in front of a green screen, and over the course of about a year, we turned that into a full music video. Almost everyone in the studio has touched it at some point, including Dante when he was here contributing sound design and music to some of our other projects.”

MK12 has posted their 2009 reel and it’s pretty radical as expected. I haven’t been to their site in a very long time either and it looks like there is a lot of new stuff there since I last dropped in. They remain one of the best.
Wow. Gkaster posted this new experimental clip just a few days back and it is really something to behold. Awesome work. He claims that it is a tribute to Tron, Akira and Blade runner.
PepperMelon updates their already tremendous body of motion work with yet even more tremendous motion work. They also have quite possibly the coolest home page graphics I have seen in a very very long time.

“When we were invited to make the F5 titles, we wanted them match the eclectic spirit of the conference. The idea was to get the soul of the speakers into the titles in some way.
“We asked each speaker to name five objects that inspire them or has something to do with their work. We received all kinds of answers—really interesting objects that gave us a great starting point: wind turbines, microscopes, lights, smoke, lamb rib cage, French bulldog…
“The speakers didn’t know what their answers would be used for, but they were the seed for our story. In this way, all the speakers added their bit. There is not a unique authorship but rather a multiple collaboration.”

“Black Rain is sourced from images collected by the twin satellite, solar mission, STEREO. Here we see the HI (Heliospheric Imager) visual data as it tracks interplanetary space for solar wind and CME’s (coronal mass ejections) heading towards Earth. Working with STEREO scientists, Semiconductor collected all the HI image data to date, revealing the journey of the satellites from their initial orientation, to their current tracing of the Earth’s orbit around the Sun. Solar wind, CME’s, passing planets and comets orbiting the sun can be seen as background stars and the milky way pass by.
As in Semiconductors previous work ‘Brilliant Noise’ which looked into the sun, they work with raw scientific satellite data which has not yet been cleaned and processed for public consumption. By embracing the artefacts, calibration and phenomena of the capturing process we are reminded of the presence of the human observer who endeavors to extend our perceptions and knowledge through technological innovation.”

David O reilly was kind enough to post some results of a motion test done for recording artist M.I.A. (who I love) and the interesting part is that it was all done to be viewed in 3D.

I have no idea really how this video was created. I am assuming by some kind of generative processing. I was really impressed by the visuals though. Beautiful.
