Hey Hush

Brooklyn-based Hush has a new site online featuring some new and really spectacular work for one intelligent client that never seems to be afraid to ride the edge and allow daring creatives to play and push the boundaries. That client is Nike. What I wouldn’t give to work on one project for Nike. They just get it when it comes to creative.

Anyway, more about Hush. Here is their profile from their website: “HUSH is a New York-based creative studio conceiving and developing powerful brand-driven stories, award winning design, animation, and film for TV, exhibition, retail and interactive platforms. Led by directors David Schwarz and Erik Karasyk, the unique, full-service studio was born out of over a decade of experience at some of the most recognized creative companies on both coasts. The HUSH collective has extensive relationships with agencies, brands, record labels, and production companies. Clients include Nike, Honda, Nokia, E*TRADE, and Coca Cola, among others. HUSH utilizes its creative talents to help clients develop engaging content wherever it may live. ”

Do take the time to actually watch their motion work. It’s really stunning and worth the time. It will repay you with inspiration.

Here is the copy about Salvation Design taken directly from their website:
Salvation is the creative portfolio of Brooklyn, New York based freelance artist & designer Sal Dell’aquila. Salvation focuses on an application of mix-media by fusing illustration, natural textures, & photography with digital art. Sal has produced a wide range of work for clients in several industries, from advertising agencies, new media companies, sports, record labels, magazines, fashion/clothing companies. He is constantly working on personal projects and always making efforts to push the boundaries of his artwork.

Sal’s work shows a lot of talent and an ability to collaborate with some of the top design talent in the business. He is also conveniently located in one of the hottest design spots in the country right now.

What is the deal with all of these awesome people from Brooklyn right now? I think I find a new one almost every week. I swear I am busting my ass non-stop here in Denver and I cannot get a lick of recognition. Denver is asleep and no amount of screaming seems to awaken it. I can’t land decent freelance contracts here and I just can’t generate momentum in this town. It’s killing me softly.

Sorry for the rant there. Enjoy Salvation’s work.

Midwest is Best – Updates

There are some nice updates at Midwest is Best, internet home base for quintessential Brooklyn hipster artist/illustrator/designer, Mike Perry. Mike has worked primarily in the hand drawn collage style for some time now. Early in his career, he worked with Urban Outfitters and was in part responsible for making UO synonymous with what I guess you could only really describe as the ‘hipster’ art and design movement. Regardless of what anyone might think of the trend itself, it is nearly impossible to not like his work. It is imbued with a human warmth that makes it so friendly you want to give it a hug. His recent skate decks for Zoo York really caught my eye. I absolutely love the colors and the every so slight Zoo York logo screened in the background is done with tasteful subtlety. It’s a very well accomplished project and it’s only the tip of the iceberg in his personal collection of great art and design.

Atmostheory

Atmostheory symbolizes the work behind one prolific New Yorker, Christopher David Ryan. I have written of his work in the past but never included links to all the places you can find and learn about him. I am definitely a fan, if you can’t tell and what I really love is the sense of wonder in his work. It’s almost always very simple and nuanced but there in lies the complexity and beauty in it. Between the valley of that duality lies a green meadow of inspirational design, illustration and typography. His daily postings have been an inspiration to me for some time now. Each one feels like a shared discovery when he posts it that you want to file away in a special little drawer and take out to look at when you need a little jump start. I think he should take each one of them and make a collection of postcards just so I could do just that with each of them.

In his own words he describes himself as a, “Brooklyn-based graphic artist, daydreamer, pseudo-scientist, wanna-be astronaut and untrained intellectual who tends to find inspiration in pretty much anything… especially music, the universe, the human condition and natural phenomena.

I think I like his work so much because I feel much the same way about my life and work. I am inspired by just about everything at some point so much so that I always seem to move perpetually between obsessions. These little passions always find their way into my work. I sense the same thing happening in Ryan’s work and I feel an affinity. Maybe it’s just me. Of course I tend to go overboard breaking out of restraint and going a little mad. Ryan’s work has a much softer touch and that makes me like it even more because as I sometimes move too much towards the dark his work could mostly be described as dreamy and light.

He also sells prints, all of which I can’t imagine looking bad on any wall, and if you think it might help you absorb some of his dreamy mojo, you can always rest on one of his sleepy head pillows. He is currently available for commission projects so if you are in the market for a ride on his crystal ship, drop him a line.
