Thom York was filmed by Theo Jemison, Grace Oh, Arthur S. Mor and Alter laying the beat down at Theory LA on March 19th once again showcasing the outrageous talent that has kept Radiohead consistently at the top of my playlist going on well over a decade now.

Radiohead – House of Cards

Radiohead just released a new video for its song “House of Cards” from the album “In Rainbows”.

No cameras or lights were used. Instead two technologies were used to capture 3D images: Geometric Informatics and Velodyne LIDAR. Geometric Informatics scanning systems produce structured light to capture 3D images at close proximity, while a Velodyne Lidar system that uses multiple lasers is used to capture large environments such as landscapes. In this video, 64 lasers rotating and shooting in a 360 degree radius 900 times per minute produced all the exterior scenes.

Watch the making-of video to learn about how the video was made and the various technologies that were used to capture and render 3D data.”

In a word, amazing.

Big Ideas: Dont Get Any

Comments Off on Big Ideas: Dont Get AnyMusic

Here is the copy from Vimeo about this video:
Radiohead held an online contest to remix “Nude” from their album – “In Rainbows” This was quite a difficult task for all the electronic musicians that entered, as Nude is in 6/8 timing, and 63bpm. Most music that’s played in clubs is around 120bpm and usually 4/4 timing. It’s near impossible to mix a waltz beat into a DJ set.

This resulted in lots of generic entries consisting of a typical 4/4 beat, but with arbitrary clips from “Nude” thrown in so that they qualified for the contest.

Thom Yorke joked at the ridiculousness of it in an interview for NPR radio, hinting that they set the competition “for a laugh” and to find out what would come out of such an impossible task.

I decided to take the piss a bit, as the contest seemed to be in that spirit.

Based on the lyric (and alternate title) “Big Ideas: Don’t get any” I grouped together a collection of old redundant hardware, and placed them in a situation where they’re trying their best to do something that they’re not exactly designed to do, and not quite getting there.

It doesn’t sound great, as it’s not supposed to.

Sinclair ZX Spectrum – Guitars (rhythm & lead)
Epson LX-81 Dot Matrix Printer – Drums
HP Scanjet 3c – Bass Guitar
Hard Drive array – Act as a collection of bad speakers – Vocals & FX

You kind of have to wait this one out for a bit but once it gets rolling its absolutely brilliant. What a great idea.

Radiohead has partnered with Aniboom and is currently holding a contest to create a 1 minute animated video using any of the songs off of Radiohead’s current album, In Rainbows. Robert Hodgin from Flight 404 decided to toss his hat in the ring with the beautiful bit of animation created with Processing above.

Radiohead – MTV Exit Foundation

Comments Off on Radiohead – MTV Exit FoundationAdvertising

An Australian Ad Agency has paired with Radiohead to create a video about raising awareness toward free trade, human trafficking and child labor. It’s a brutally simple but amazingly effective concept that is sadly also very very true. Things like this are going on around the world every day and for what? Are lifestyles come at too much of a cost. They just aren’t sustainable and to see something like this is heartbreaking.

It’s definitely food for thought in an age of rampantly destructive consumption.
