I missed this little diddy by MK12 for FITC. It’s pretty amazing if you visit the little micro-site for the piece and watch the making of and realize that they cell animated the piece. I am always impressed and amazed by motion shops that turn the key from 3d and After Effects into full on cell animation. It’s not an easy thing to do and MK12 did it in style.
It’s been a long time since we have heard from our talented friends at MK12 but they have recently released their summer reel. It’s packed full of examples of their unique and always-inspiring talents. You can also view more of their work at their Website. They certainly have not lost their edge.
Midwestern (yeah Midwest represent!) illustrator Micah Lidberg has updated with a new website and a few new pieces of work. From those I have spoken with, all I hear is how nice of a guy he is and how hard he works at what he does. I was told that he actually creates some of his illustrations at a very large scale and then shrinks them down to maintain all of the detail. I am not sure if that is exactly how he generates some of his detail-rich imagery, but nonetheless it is a party for the eyes.
I was given a signed print of his work from Hugo & Marie, and it is one of my favorite art prints. The colors in the print are gorgeous. It’s a shame we spend so much time looking at design and illustration online when in order to truly understand and feel it you really need to see it in print. The same can definitely be said for Micah’s work. When you do see his illustrations in print, they are much much more striking.
Cinematographer, Michael Stine specializes in lighting for motion picture and camera operation, along with digital SLR photography. He sent his reel in this morning and not only is it great work, it is a part of the business that doesn’t always receive the attention it deserves.
J Bennett Fitts was born in Kansas City, Missouri and attended the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. His imagery centers around the kind of of post-apocalyptic paradise lost feeling of abandoned roadside hotels.
