MGMT (Make Great Music Together) has released it’s official video for the wildly popular track ‘Kids’. The song has been all over the place, so chances are you have heard it already. That does not stop the video, however from being mildly offensive and questionable. Damn I love this band. I hope their sophomore album is good.

The recent video for the Nid and Sancy single ‘Kidzz’ was directed by Little Red Robot. The video was created using still photography captured by Bronques who is known for his photoblog ‘Last Night’s Party‘.

I love this song. A music-savvy coworker and friend turned me onto ‘Here We Go Magic’ a few months back and this song still holds firm as a favorite. There is a rhythmic drive to the song lifts and carries you, but stays balanced by an airy whimsy that opens wide and lets your mind drift. Its a strange little number, but there is a peculiar beauty in the strangeness that I just can’t get enough of. It makes me want to drive through the mountains here in Colorado and imagine how they have been here long before all of the bullshit that I worry about in my tragic modern life. There is something modern pop happening in the music that still feels firmly built on an old guitar meets percussion foundation. Unfortunately, I don’t think a lot of the rest of the songs on the album rise to answer the promise this song makes, but for me it is hard to argue that there isn’t something kind of special about the single ‘Fangela’. It’s even harder to argue when you can appreciate it doubly as an in studio recording and still appreciate it performed live, both of which you can see above.
The Big Pink is a really interesting mash-up of musical styles. You can hear influences from all over the place in their music. If you can get through the ‘droning’ at the beginning of the song you will be richly rewarded by the vocals. The video is expertly shot and art directed as well.

I couldn’t take my eyes off of this unusual video. The interplay between color fields and the usage of contrast is first rate. There’s some real art going on here. There is also some nice usage of typography peppered in for good measure. I am curious if this was shot digitally or on film. Either way it’s great work.

Just stumbled across this video directed by George Salisbury featuring a cover of Madonna’s original song ‘Borderline’ as covered by the Flaming Lips and Stardeath. It’s a great cover and a really nice video. The video was done with 1 day of shooting and completed in a 1 day edit using After Effects.
Sidenote: Some guy complained last week that he wanted me to include my video posts in a separate RSS feed. I apologize but with my extremely limited knowledge of WordPress and CSS, I have no clue how to do that. So until then, I guess you’ll just have to type the domain into your web browser from time to time to pick up on little gems like this kick ass song and video.

Matthias Koenigswieser shot this video with Alma Har’el from Partizan for XL Records artist Jack Penate in a junk yard just outside of Los Angeles. It’s been a while but Jack Penate is back.
I had no idea until someone pointed this out to me today that Nigel Evan Dennis (A.K.A. Electric Heat) was in a band, and I also had no idea that they are really good. He just released his first video today for their upcoming EP entitled, ‘Ice Cream Bones’ and boy I am just blown away by how talented he is. Great music, great design, great art. Everything just great. He created the video himself and from what I can tell also did the album cover. Wow.

A lot of people have been wondering both if there would be a Lollapalooza this year and if so, who would be performing in it. Yes there will be one and you can watch the lineup above. I have never been but am seriously considering it this year.
