“Brazilian design graduate Jorge Lopes Dos Santos has developed a way of making physical models of foetuses using data from ultrasound, CT and MRI scans.”
Wow. This is really creepy and bizarre. I am not entirely sure how to even interpret this. It’s a whole new kind of art. You can read up on this one-of-a-kind project at Dezeen.
About the artist from Wikipedia:
“Dustin Yellin (born Los Angeles, July 22, 1975) is a contemporary artist living in New York. His artworks are based on a unique process of painting 3d forms in resin. Common subjects in his artworks are biological imagery. While historic artists like Leopold Blaschka and Ernst Haeckel have used their techniques to represent real biological forms, Dustin Yellin’s artworks exist as permutations of natural life and form. His paintings use a method to represent 3d forms that is reminiscent of both lenticular images and rapid prototyping. The technique approximates a static volumetric display and is autostereoscopic as his artworks appear three dimensional without the use of special glasses or viewing equipment.”
Really fascinating approach resulting in beautiful art.

Really interesting but quick little diddy from the mad minds behind Universal Everything. I am not entirely sure what this is for but the title says something about ’42 Below Vodka / China’. Radical nonetheless.
Eskimo Square is the showcase ‘sophisticated 3D visualization’ from Graham Harvey. He is responsible for the recent SYFY 3D logo that has been floating around the design blogosphere this past week. You can see more in his Flickr-folio as well.

This is the story of the unexpected meeting between a young peruvian boy living with his lama and a pilot from the airmail flying above the boy’s house.”
The style and animation in this short film is really expertly executed. You can learn a little more about the project here.
Motion Designer, Raffi Simonian has launched a new web presence featuring some really beautiful and sleek motion/animation work. I really like his website as well. It is very simple and highly functional, utilizing animated gifs as thumbmails, which is really clever in terms of fast load time and quick preview playback. It’s a smart idea featuring some smart work.
Click 3X launches a new website complete with a fancy-pants video player (minus a timeline scrubber [sorry, my only beef]). The site isn’t really the hero though, the work is. They have some amazing examples of animation, CGI effects and motion graphics in their ever-growing portfolio. Browsing through their projects is just good fun.
Tyson Ibele has released his reel for 2009 and it is packed with jaw-dropping 3D CGI animation and effects. Every moving image is just gorgeous and artfully crafted down to the very finest detail. Beautiful and imaginative work.
Wow. Gkaster posted this new experimental clip just a few days back and it is really something to behold. Awesome work. He claims that it is a tribute to Tron, Akira and Blade runner.
From the Hoop is a 3D Short directed by 3 students from Supinfocom Arles.
The story was inspired by the life of Earl Manigault, a basketball player who lost everything in drugs. Near the end of his life he dedicated his time to helping children of Harlem avoid the same fate. It was during this time that he started the “Walk Away From Drugs” tournament for kids. He died in 1998 from a heart failure.
The storyline in the actual film very non-linear and I think it is meant to be more of an abstract subjective interpretation of Manigault’s personal struggle with his inner-demons. It’s a beautiful little short though and the color and animation are really great for a student film. Impressive work. You can learn a little more about the project at the official website as well.
