Flippin’ cool video by Kraak and Smaak.
This DJ Earworm audio/visual mashup of Kanye and Radiohead is pretty bad ass.
Gnarls Barkley will be releasing a new digital EP on Nov.11th with a new track and a remix of ‘Whose Gonna Save My Soul’. Gnarls Barkley is releasing four different versions of the song “Who’s Gonna Save My Soul” on a digital EP aptly titled ‘Who’s Gonna Save My Soul’, on Nov. 11. The EP will also include a live version of “Neighbors” recorded at the 40-Watt Club in Athens, Ga., and last but not least the non-album track “Mystery Man.” Apparently ‘Mystery Man’ is a the first song recorded for a new upcoming album and should be a little glimpse into where Gnarls is headed. They recently released the somewhat cryptic video above to promote the upcoming release of the EP. You can find out more when November 11th draws near at Gnarls’ official website.
Remember all of those music videos from your youth that you absolutely loved. Better yet, remember when Mtv actually played music videos? Well, they have put their full archive online and it is a treasure trove of good times and a pleasant stroll down memory lane.
You can watch all your favorites now at Mtv Music.
Goddamnit I love this fucking song. It makes me want to jump off of someone’s roof into a swimming pool. I was lucky enough to stumble upon this on a trip to New York last week. I have no idea why I haven’t heard this gem yet. I think it is because I have been doing nothing but working my ass off for the last year or so. But man, am I glad I heard this diddy. I just can’t stop listening to it. It just kicks ass pure and simple. It makes me want to kick a door down and smash a guitar into a floor. Awesome.
Honestly, this song is without a doubt the high water mark on the MGMT album Oracular Spectacular. It is a very high water mark however. I am a lyrics man, since I used to write them and did my best at being a lead singer in a band or two when I was a young pup, and damnit it all to hell if I don’t just love the vicious unrepentant rock anthem lyrics in this song.
Don’t get me wrong there are some other tasty licks on this album but this one just turns my crank. Hard.
“This music video directed by OneInThree for ‘Wild Beasts’ second single of their debut album ‘Limbo Panto’ is a mesmerising & hypnotic tour de force. It pioneers an amazing mind bending visual technique called the ‘Droste Effect’ which is based on an uncompleted lithograph that Escher made in 1956. The maths behind the lithograph was so complicated that Escher was unable to finish the centre of the picture and so left it blank. OneInThree developed the technique from Josh Sommers code so that it could be applied to moving images and apart from a grade & online at The Mill did all the VFX themselves.”
Jonas Odell (co-founder and director at Film Tecknarna) along with Nexus Productions, helped produce this 80’s inspired, Warhol-collage video for Norwegian rocker Ida Maria.
You can watch it here. Not sure why they won’t let you embed it though.
I am digging it.
Directed by Chris Milk for the album “The Odd Couple”.
Crazy man.
Johnny from DGenetics Music has been informing people in the grapevine that if you sign up to their mailing list you can download Dgenerate Nation’s full length albums (that is their music video above) and the three other acts on their label; Fiore, and Pumpkin Patch, Old Gold.
Nice little extra somethin’ somethin’ for a Friday afternoon.
‘Jerk It’ directed by That Go for Thunderheist’s song of the same title. Apparently you can vote for this as it is a finalist in the Thunderheist video contest. I don’t know if the voting is still open but if it is you should vote for this hawt little gem here.
The brilliant people behind Adult Swim have put together a follow up mix to the free Ghostly Swim album that came out a few months ago. The new mix is titled, ‘World Wide Renewal Program‘ and features a collection of Chocolate Industries artists. Cover art by Razauno. As far as I can tell there are several new releases and some potentially unreleased tracks. I was really blown away by the quality of the last mix and this new one is every bit as good. Download it now for free and enjoy. Thank you Adult Swim.
Ah Pharrell is one of those rare hip-hop/pop stars that just knows what the hell he is doing. His latest video featuring Santo Gold and Julian Casablancas is awesome.
This video struck me in a couple different ways. A: It’s weird as hell but also fascinatingly so. By that I mean, after you get over the initial shock of what you are seeing and trying to interpret it gets your marbles rolling around and makes you start to think and consider what is actually happening. B: The music is great and now I am going to go do my homework and find out more about this band and potentially purchase their album.
The video is directed by Koichiro Tsujikawa. You can see a whole slew of his work here at the Pink Tentacle.
Thanks to Denver Egotist for uncovering the link.
I apologize but I am currently on the road so I don’t have a lot of time to blog. So postings might be sparse the next few days lest my other bloggers decide to fill in the gaps for me while I am away.
I realized today that I haven’t posted about music in a while and there is a band I have been wanting to tell you about for a while. I recently purchased an album ‘Here Comes the Future’ by the band The Honeydrips. I cannot stop listening to it. It’s on the lighter the side of the rock meter but it’s just damn good music. Every song is catchy and it’s a great listen from start to finish. I have been playing it on a loop lately probably at the behest of some of my coworkers. I am not a big fan of headphones because I like to keep my hearing so I listen to my music out loud.
They just wrapped a little tour with Jens Lekman so I missed my opportunity to see them here in Colorado which was unfortunate. If you like what you hear, head over to their website and consider their album. You can’t miss and I wouldn’t recommend it if I didn’t really like it myself.
This Brighton Port Authority video for ‘Toe Jam’ featuring David Byrne and Dizzee Rascal just made my Friday afternoon.
I stumbled across this video for phon°noir (Matthias Grübel) animated by Sebastian Haslauer and Sebastian Koch today. I love the collage dada style of the video punctuated by some tasty typographical moments. It’s an interesting little piece of motion work for an interesting musician.
An older Brazilian hippy friend of mine originally from Rio (a carioca as my wife would call him), turned me on to the recordings at The Old Grey Whistle this weekend. He has a whole bunch of the original recordings on a DVD and I was just blown away by the performances. There were performances by the likes of Bob Marley, David Bowie, U2, The Police and just about every great band or musical act ever. The recordings are historical in their importance as to capturing some of the most powerful performers ever to take the stage. I highly recommend the DVD.
One of the performances that stood out to me was Edgar Winter Band’s performance of Frankenstein that you can watch above. I just couldn’t believe how much ass Edgar Winter’s kicked.
Wow I am not only digging the actual music video for Morton Valence’s ‘Chandelier’, I am also digging the music. The video was directed by Klaas Diersmann & Dan Sutherland.
