I Love Dust In Motion

One of my favorite design and illustration firms, I Love Dust, has been breaking some new ground in the world of motion graphics animation. It is really no surprise when considering the amazing detail in their hand-rendered illustrations and their amazing ability to master whatever media they choose to use. They have two new experimental motion pieces on display at Ultimate PC. Sorry Mac people (that would include me).

Be sure to click on the smaller thumbnails to see both of the animations.

Diesel XXX

Comments Off on Diesel XXXAdvertising

This viral video was created for the Diesel XXX party. The spot was directed by Keith Schofield and animated by Big Animal. I gotta say I just about fell off of my chair the first time I saw it. The video is of course meant to be ‘viral’, ‘viral’ being one of those words like ‘guerilla’ that if I hear one more time in the context of advertising, I will most surely throw up a little in my mouth.

This one breaks the mold though. The production is quality and so is the animation, not to mention it is one of those ideas that I am sure a lot of people have had but been afraid to present or execute. It is also doing it’s job so-to-speak by ‘virally’ (ugh), by spreading across the internet like a wildfire. It is one more reason why I remain interested in Diesel and would love to one day knock out or I guess in this context ‘pound out’ a little creative for them.

Sorry that was a really bad joke there at the end. Oh well.

Better Than Prince

“After JUSTICE “D.A.N.C.E” and many other stunning videos, please enjoy the First FLAIRS animated cartoon by JONAS & FRANCOIS…. Handmade, 3000 paper sheets, a simple printer-computer & scanner trio, 7 black ink pencils, sometimes drawn in a Tokyo Hotel room, a Paris studio or on a Madonna video shoot in London, it’s black & white groove & simplicity suits the track like the best wedding possible….”

You can see the homepage for this here at Virb. Awesome.

I Met The Walrus

A friend emailed this to me this morning and I was really impressed. It’s an amazing little piece of animation about a person I love. I can’t really rewrite the description any better than it is already written so here it is (enjoy): “In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan, armed with a reel-to-reel tape deck, snuck into John Lennon’s hotel room in Toronto and convinced John to do an interview about peace. 38 years later, Jerry has produced a film about it. Using the original interview recording as the soundtrack, director Josh Raskin has woven a visual narrative which tenderly romances Lennon’s every word in a cascading flood of multipronged animation. Raskin marries the terrifyingly genius pen work of James Braithwaite with masterful digital illustration by Alex Kurina, resulting in a spell-binding vessel for Lennon’s boundless wit, and timeless message.

Thanks for the link Allen.

Blind Spot

Comments Off on Blind SpotMotion Graphics

Blind Spot is an animation piece created by Gobelins students Johanna Bessiere, Nicolas Chauvelot, Olivier Clert, Cecile Dubois Herry, Yvon Jardel and Simon Rouby. The piece has just been nominated as a Best Student Piece for SIGGRAPH 2008. For a student film is is very maturely accomplished with a great storyline with a few comedic punches. It makes for great entertainment and technically speaking its impressive work. Congratulations guys, keep up the great work.

Wyld Stallyons: Jon Burgerman

I saw this a while back and forgot to post it. The wildly-talented Wyld Stallyons recently teamed up with doodler-extraordinaire, Jon Burgerman. They created an animation utilizing Jon’s unique characters to promote the release of his new book. It’s interesting to see his characters animated. We contracted Burgerman at Cactus, to cover the Own Your C ride vehicle with his characters. He was very easy to work with and is a really talented guy. Check out the animation and look into picking up a copy of his book.

You can view the animation at Wyld Stallyons website.

The Neighbourhood

The Neighbourhood believes in cities, green spaces, architecture, animation, good design, community, originality, big ideas, colour, playing, innovation, imagination, the future, collaboration, learning, curiosity, useful technology, sharing, taking risks, smiling, random encounters, luck, the road less traveled, instinct, purpose, surprise, delight, new ways of thinking, taking an occasional wrong turn and the birds and the bees.

They are a creative community of people who share a fascination with design, animation, architecture, contemporary culture and science.

It also appears as though they have created work for all of the above mediums. I highly suggest viewing their website in the fullscreen version since it doesn’t work quite as well in the browser window. It’s worth it to view it that way and the immersive experience allows you to absorb the work more fully. It looks beautiful on my Mac to say the least.
