David O’Reilly has inspired a lot of creatives over a long period of time and he recently has his first world premiere of his short film ‘The External World’ at the 67th Venice Film Festival and had his U.S. premiere at Sundance 2011.

“AKQA San Francisco asked PostPanic to help create a unique 10th anniversary thank you film to more than 1 million Google AdWords clients worldwide. The agency’s idea was to individually address each of the clients by incorporating their company name in the film visuals. PostPanic took on the challenge of creating the main film which would then be handed over complete to Google’s customization agency for clients’ name integration. Director Mischa Rozema developed AKQA’s script to include a fictitious Google research department trying out ambitious experiments to feature each advertiser. A combination of live action and vfx, the footage was filmed by PostPanic in around Google HDQ in California, before being brought back for post in Amsterdam.”

This video was directed by Saam Farahmand for the Klaxons single ‘Twin Flames’. Disturbing is probably an apropos adjective in this case if you want to put it mildly with a touch of sarcasm. ‘WTF’ spoken by clearly enunciating each word as opposed to saying the acronym might also be a proper response. Regardless of what you might think out loud or inward this is a strange but technically accomplished piece of art.

Well I had to face my subconscious fear of clowns in order to take in this strange short film from written by Andreas Nilsson & Jeff Tetrea.

Paul Trillo wrote, shot, directed and edited this short titled ‘How to Fly a Kite’ originally for the 48 Hour Film Festival. Music is by Anthony Bello.
This has been online for 9 months already but is still worth sharing for the accolades it garnered alone. ‘The Light of Life’ was directed by Daihei Shibata with piano by Naomi Yaguchi and music by Debussy featuring the song “Clair de Lune”. Beautiful video.
‘Skyence’ is an experimental animation and collaboration between Skyence (Hamburg) and Johannes Timpernagel (Berlin). The animation was generated in VVVV and final editing was completed in After Effects.

Motion/Direction agency Not to Scale has relaunched their website and it’s an excellent example of how to keep a site simple but make it interesting via color and placement. It does a great job at showcasing the work of their top directors and it makes sorting through the content fun.
Seattle based director and motion designer Colin Day is fresh of a 7 year stint at Digital Kitchen that garnered two Emmy nominations. As well you could imagine, he has some strong work in his considered portfolio for clients ranging the spectrum.
Around 8 months back creative agency Dreamers Ink Aesthetics added some new work to their portfolio that really raised the bar. I’ve been checking in on them for the past 2 years and just finally saw some of this work at their site and was doubly impressed. You can see a spot for Nissan above and more at the DIA website.
Mr. Harrison (if you please) is a graduate from Central St. Martins and has been on a streak directing some highly unusual but brilliant music videos. The most recent of which is the above video for Asprins single ‘Cutter’. It’s not quite like anything I have seen lately. Mr. Harrison is one to keep an eye on.
