I am always excited to find something interesting that isn’t in Europe or the U.S. So I was understandably excited when I discovered the Argentinian motion graphics firm Pepper Melon. They have some really crazy stuff going on in their portfolio and they have worked with some of the best and brightest in the motion industry. Their recent project for Universal Everything’sAdvanced Beauty project yielded some pretty outrageous results.
Logan has recently updated with a lot of new and really incredible motion work. Their intros for Metal Gear Solid 4 are just spectacular. Beautiful work.
Some nice work for both motion and print at the new website of Los Angeles-based designer/director (I want to be a designer/director too) Anthony Furlong.
The quirky but interesting Feel Good Anyway has a new motion reel up. I must say, it is quite possibly the weirdest motion reel I have ever seen but I kind of like that it is the weirdest motion reel I have ever seen. Then again, I am kind of weird so I guess you can take that with a grain of salt.
Paris based UFO recently signed with California/NY/London based production company The Ebeling Group . You can now view their amazing body of work at both their own and Ebeling’s website. They are responsible for some really amazing motion work.
I just finished watching 30 Days of Night for the first time and I loved it so much, I did some research on the Director of Photography for the film. Jo Willems is a director working with Method Studios, the people behind some fantastic motion advertisements such as the one featured above for Mountain Dew. Ever wonder whose responsible for all your favorite commercials? I just introduced you to them.
W&K Portland and Nike by manvsmagnet (a.k.a. Matt Smithson) of Curious Pictures have partnered to create this video for The Girl Effect. It’s a really simple animation that leans heavily on good writing to deliver what I think is a pretty powerful message. It’s very restrained but I think the simplicity actually helps deliver a stronger impact forcing you to read along and ingest the message.
Newly established Danish motionographer Jesper Bentzen has launched a new site featuring his gorgeous work. He also happens to have a highly functional and totally non-disruptive Flash website which is a nice thing in and of itself. Brilliant work all around.
Blind Spot is an animation piece created by Gobelins students Johanna Bessiere, Nicolas Chauvelot, Olivier Clert, Cecile Dubois Herry, Yvon Jardel and Simon Rouby. The piece has just been nominated as a Best Student Piece for SIGGRAPH 2008. For a student film is is very maturely accomplished with a great storyline with a few comedic punches. It makes for great entertainment and technically speaking its impressive work. Congratulations guys, keep up the great work.
Pierre Magnol aka Kurtzmedias and Pierre Fabre have partnered to start a new motion-design studio called Gkaster – their brand new motion-design studio. They just launched their new website featuring their motion real and they already have some impressive work on display.
Germany-based Designer Jan Mathias Steinforth works under the alias of mateuniverse, and has been touring Europe for more than two years now. His recent motion piece for the Advanced Beauty project is really stunning.
Comments Off on Media Temple – Collective MotionMotion Graphics
The results of Media Temple’s first ever Collective Project is in. They have posted their favorite submissions on their site hosting the project, deemed ‘Collective Motion.’ There are a lot of different styles represented since when the project opened Media Temple left it open to anyone’s interpretation. The reason several of the pieces have no sound apparently is because the Collective Motion reel is used primarily at Media Temple promotional events where there is usually a DJ spinning to the motion graphics.
Interpol is far and away one of my favorite bands from the last few years. I started listening to them over 4 years ago when I lived in Miami and news of their music was slowly spreading up and down the east coast. Since then I have seen them in concert twice which is a rare thing for me since I don’t usually make it out to see live music as often as I said. So, needless to say when I stumbled on this news I was pretty excited to see a new video and hear a new song.
Apparently Capitol Records approached Los Angeles-based Blip Boutique to produce a video for Interpol’s latest single, ‘Rest My Chemistry’. They didn’t want the standard fare however, and were hoping more for a piece of digital art that would spread across the web and most likely never be broadcast. Blip Boutique went to task and created a video using a new data mapping technology that is very original.
Brazillian Motion Agency Molho does the kind of work that melts your brain. Recently they conceived a two minute free-from motion piece for Maxhaus. Maxhaus is a Brazillian brand that specializes in modular custom lofts.
Molho studio is based in Sao Paulo and led b creative director Marcelo Garcia. The studio aims to conceptualize and produce ideas across all mediums and in very possible format.
Have a gander at their work for Maxhaus and be patient because they will soon have a full and proper website where you can review the rest of their work.
The super talented Chris Hewitt who goes by the name Dstrukt has just wrapped an impressive project for the Sci-Fi channel. The spot is very much in keeping with Hewitt’s kinetic style. The spot is a 60 second ident sequence for Sci-Fi Movies. Hewitt used an array of techniques ranging from live action, CGI and traditional animation. The project involved a wild 2 day live action shoot at Jason Tozer studio in East London where everything from exploding mirrors to burning orchids was filmed.
Art magazine ROJO, now has their own place on the web aptly named Rojo TV where you can both watch and submit your experimental motion graphics or videos. There is already some interesting content there. My only problem with the site is that you can’t embed the video. If you have a little time to kill and you need a little creative inspiration, there is some interesting content there to get you recharged.
