Record Club: INXS – New Sensation

Comments Off on Record Club: INXS – New SensationMusic

“Record Club No. 4 is here…! Joining in this time we had three of my favorite bands— Liars, Annie Clark and Daniel Hart from St. Vincent, Sergio Dias from the legendary Brazilian band Os Mutantes, as well as RC veteran Brian Lebarton, just back from the Charlotte Gainsbourg tour. The record covered this time was 1987 blockbuster ‘Kick’ by INXS. The record was chosen by fellow Aussie, Angus from the Liars. It was recorded in a little over 12 hours on March 3rd, 2010. It was an intense, hilarious, daunting and completely fun undertaking. Thanks to everybody for being there and putting so much into it. Many classic moments, inspired performances and occasional anarchy. We’ll post the songs consecutively in the album’s original sequence. First one up is ‘Guns In The Sky.'”

Amazing music and a great project that you can learn more about by visiting Beck’s personal website.

Brad Elterman

Photographer Brad Elterman is one of those people you could say has ‘been there and done that’. After picking up his first camera at 16 his first photo of Bob Dylan performing onstage was publish in 1974. That you might say lead to a life of debauchery in the seventies when leaving school at the age of 19 he hit the road traveling with acts like Leif Garret, Boney M, The Eagles and Rod Stewart just to name a few. He covered the rock scene in Hollywood capturing intimate images of some of music’s most iconic stars. He has contributed those images to publications such as US, Creem, Circus, Rolling Stone, People, Hit Parader, Phonograph Record Magazine, Rock Magazine, Rock Scene, New York Post, National Enquirer, The StarJAPAN, Music Life, Rock ShowEUROPE, Muzeik Express, Photo Foto, Pop, Pop Rocky, Bravo, Das Freizeit, Magazun, Popcorn, Poster Magazine, Oh Boy, Fabulous 208, Jackie, Sounds, New Musical Express, Melody Maker. He was also often hired for official publicity photos by major record labels including RCA, Warner Bros, MCA, Mercury, Columbia, RSO and Capitol Records.

Complicated Universal Cum

Comments Off on Complicated Universal CumMusic

This is the official video for “I can hardly wait” by Complicated Universal Cum soon to be released via Fake Diamond Records (whose website could use a major overhaul).

The video was directed by Ditlev Rosing & Frederik Valentin (I bet it was a tough one to shoot).

“I Cant Hardly Wait is the obvious hit-ballade from Frederik Valentins solo debut, where fuzzed-out psychedelic spacerock is combined with elements of primitive electropunk, noiserock and punkrock attitude.”

HAT – Max & Laura Braun

Comments Off on HAT – Max & Laura BraunAnimation

“The song HAT by Max and Laura Braun presents an enigmatic story of love, discovery and loss, a sense of home and growing up. Foresaking linearity and coherence, a narrative is conveyed through fleeting glimpses, allowing a subtle landscape of emotion and memory to emerge, its contours defined by thick, soft lines.
This dreamlike style is continued throughout the video made by director Michael Fragstein. Hand painted sequences unfolding in an empty space accompany the song’s lyrics. Replete with ambiguity and symbolism, these images appear, merge and fade. An ongoing chain of events reveals an infinite number of ties between the protagonists, while leaving room for interpretation and a space for the audience to reflect.”

This 10th anniversary self promotional animation for Record Makers is straight up bootylicious. It’s an adjective that so rarely applies but in this case it is positively apropos.

Mike Barzman shot this experimental video at 1800 frames per second. I cannot claim to know exactly what he was trying to accomplish or say by shooting it, as he did not enlighten me via his email but I must admit that I found it fun to watch.

The Antlers – Bear

Comments Off on The Antlers – BearMusic

Evan Owen Dennis wrote in to let me know about a new music video he directed for the band The Antlers for their single ‘Bear’ off of the album ‘Hospice’. It’s a great video for a great band. The album isn’t new but the video is, possibly because more people have come around to the band this year after the albums reception last year.

End Scene

Comments Off on End SceneMotion Graphics

“This video was made by Steffen Bygebjerg in 2009 for the song “End Scene”. The track is taken from Troels Abrahamsen’s album WHT also from 2009.

The animation work was made in Adobe After Effects. Each frame was then printed and the print was subsequently scanned back into the computer. The scanned frames were then assembled back into the original animation, now with a new rugged look, created by the visit in the physical analogue world. No effects added after scanning.”

Fettes Brot – Jein 2010

Comments Off on Fettes Brot – Jein 2010Music

Daniel Warwick directed this video for Fettes Brot which kind of reminds me of something you would have seen in the 80’s for Devo. Minus the amazing vivid color, art direction and super stylized sets of course. The whole video is pretty strange and I am not entire sure what the aim was but it is definitely entertaining.

phishlimitededitionposters.jpg

I stumbled upon Hugo & Marie’s Behance-folio this morning and was treated to some really exceptional posters recently completed for the latest album release of superpower-hippy-jam-band Phish. There are several posters completed by different artists and illustrators under the Hugo & Marie umbrella, all of which are expertly accomplished.

After you finish checking out the posters you can also head over to the Hugo & Marie website to take a look at the portfolio of their newly added illustrator Jules Julien.
