Since I would struggle to do justice to the description I was sent of the Karl Otto website, I thought instead that it might be easier to just pull a quote directly from the email I was sent: “The site prominently contains the “collection” what is a library of original works by Karl Otto made available through the Internet. The collection is formed as a social instrument, working with all aspects of graphic design and should be approached as a raw material that is acted upon or used as a building material to construct a variety of expressions.“
North Kingdom has released a new show reel featuring selected cases from 2003 to 2009.
I apologize for being born in a country where you are discouraged to learn a second language which helps explain why I can’t read nearly anything at the Claudia Basel studio website. It doesn’t take a second language to see clearly however that there is some striking examples of graphic design within the Claudia Basel portfolio that are worth laying eyes on regardless of your linguistic capabilities.
There is some gorgeous branding and print work in the portfolio of Lotta Nieminen who studied at both the University of Art and Design Helsinki and The Rhode Island School of Design. That is quite a background and it shows in the work.
Abi Huynh is a graphic designer originally from Lethbridge, Alberta, living in Vancouver but working (temporarily) in New York City. He is a graduate from the Type and Media MA program at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten (Den Haag). He also holds a B Des Communication Design from the Emily Carr University in Vancouver. There is some excellent use of typography work in his portfolio.
Digital illustrator Rob Shields sent a note today that he has been busy updating his site with several examples of new project work. He recently completed some illustrations for both Beautiful Decay and Computer Arts.
Geneva-based multidisciplinary design studio League was established in 2007 by Aurélie Vogt, Tony Casimo and Alex Wall Dujet. There is some very swiss, clean and considered work in the portfolio of League much of which is very inspirational.
Studio Spass is a visual communication agency based in Rotterdam. They have a growing list of clients with some sharp work for print and web. They have a strong passion for design and do what they can to keep from boxing themselves in by avoiding formulae.
Studio Astrid Stavro is a multi-disciplinary communication and design consultancy based in Barcelona. They have large volume of work in their portfolio, all of which is clean and considered. Spend a little time clicking-through. Their work has been online for quite some time now and for some reason I missed it.
Providence, Rhode Island-based graphic designer and motionographer Christopher Wade Sherron has some nice clean typography work in his portfolio.
Slovenian Studio Ee has some crispy clean print work in their collective portfolio.
There have been some small updates recently at This Studio including this beautiful A1 promotional poster that should be available soon. This’s work has been splashed across the pages of the creative blogosphere for the last several days and for good reason, every bit of work is highly considered and the use of typography is stunningly gorgeous.
Swiss graphic designer Marc Bally has stripped his print layouts down to their most basic elements utilizing solid colors, photographs and typography in their purest forms. The end result is no frills graphic design.
Rétrofuturs (Hulk4598) is the work of graphic designer and illustrator Stéphane Massa-Bidal. She recently completed a Penguin-book-cover-inspired series of posters centered around the theme of web services. They are available to purchase and are seriously worth checking out. They made my ‘design’ day. Sorry that sounds so nerdy but it’s true. The subhead inside joke on the FFFFound cover with the word ‘register’ crossed out is pretty hilarious.
“Founded by Natasha Shah and Chris Hilton, Design Friendship is well just that, a friendship born through a love of design. Nat & Chris met while working together in 2003 and have been friends ever since.”
It’s a lucky thing they decided to solidify that friendship into a design firm as well because they have some absolutely beautiful work in their collective portfolio.
The Daily Drop Cap is an ongoing project by typographer and illustrator Jessica Hische. Each work day she posts a new hand-crafted decorative initial cap that you can use in your blog posts. There is some lovely typography work happening as a result of her efforts. Great idea.
It’s been a very very long time since I have dropped in on the portfolio of Barcelonian graphic designer and typographer Angel Sanz Correa and I was pleased to find some new and inspirational work.
