“What can machines tell us about being human? This hour of Radiolab, Jad and Robert meet humans and robots who are trying to connect, and blur the line.” Listen, read and learn here.
McBess has updated with some new work to his fantastic portfolio and added a little tweak to his wholly unique and totally recognizable style. That tweak arrives in the form of color and it’s something he swears he hates and will never do again but I kinda like it.
“Time lapse sequences of photographs taken by the crew of expeditions 28 & 29 onboard the International Space Station from August to October, 2011, who to my knowledge shot these pictures at an altitude of around 350 km. All credit goes to them. I intend to upload a FullHD-version presently.
HD, refurbished, smoothed, retimed, denoised, deflickered, cut, etc. All in all I tried to keep the looks of the material as original as possible, avoided adjusting the colors and the like, since in my opinion the original footage itself already has an almost surreal and aestethical visual nature.”
Is space amazing or what? Why can’t well go there for a visit. Could someone make that possible already?

The guys in the studio turned me onto the motion work of the German studio Polynoid today. The work is slick, psychedelic and totally awesome (case in point the work for Mtv above). You can visit their website and portfolio here.
Illustrator Randy Ortiz is packing a lot of detail into his work. He still has a relatively small body of work but it promises an over pour of talent for those who are willing to stay tuned for more.
Amalgamation is 1:24 minutes of morphing, rippling, mutating, animated goodness. You can watch the full video here or just let your brain slowly melt while watching the animated gif above. Motion design by Micaël Reynaud and portraits by Michael Jang.
Nate Utesch has a loose throwback style that uses broad strokes of ink. It’s a very editorial look that references old school comics and it’s a refreshingly ‘non-digital’ affair.
“I’m a Youngstown, Ohio born – Brooklyn, New York based artist and designer.
“George Dawe was an English portrait artist who painted 329 portraits of Russian generals active during Napoleon’s invasion of Russia for the Military Gallery of the Winter Palace, Saint Petersburg, Russia.
I’m using digital copies of these paintings as a basis for my own work which involves incorporating my friends, family and even some celebrities into the paintings using photoshop.”
Artist and illustrator Drew Millward has updated with several new works, many of which serve as a refreshing extension of his style. He’s experimenting more with color also which also serves as a nice break. In short, I’m digging it big time.
“The DMC Initiative (DMCI) developed this piece as a response to the 2011 A/NZ PromaxBDA Conference title of Future Proof.
Directed by Nathan Drabsch, the performances were shot over one day using two RED Epic cameras, capturing the action at high speed. All design, editing and post production was done in-house by The DMCI team. We worked closely with composers and audio designers Mark Brandis & Jeff Black from ism studios, to create a unique score that perfectly compliments the performances.”

Well I am sure you have noticed that my blogging pace has slowed quite a bit these past few months. The reason being is that about 20 months ago I launched the Changethethought production studio. In the past year we have completed around 50 or so motion design, 3D, illustration and graphic design related projects. Our focus so far has tended to be motion and 3D but we are still delivering a lot of illustration and graphic design based projects for print. We are still very much just starting out with this new venture but we’ve managed to work with some exciting agencies and clients already. Our best projects so far are currently in the pipeline so please keep an eye on our portfolio as it will be changing often.
You can view our new site and reel here: changethethought.tv
Thanks so much as always for supporting Changethethought and expect a lot of new things to happen in the coming months.
Not only is Nacho Rojo quite possibly the coolest name you have heard in a long time that doesn’t belong to a Mexican Wrestler, it also represents the work of a pretty kick ass photographer and I am particularly loving this set of images from his Behance-Folio.
The Foundry Collective is a new print, illustration and branding shop that caught our eye here in Denver. They have a unique throwback style and an amazing eye and hand at type and illustration. We were super excited to discover that they call Denver home and hope they help us keep raising the bar here.
Saiman Chow has brought his patent psychedelic spin to this spot for Ray-Ban’s ‘Rare Prints’ campaign. It’s refreshing to see that style translated into broadcast. I would expect to see more considering how this has been received so far.

Illustrator Kustaa Saksi recently updated with several new projects, all featuring the patent psychedelic swimming neon colors that the Saksi name carries with it. And that is all a very good thing.
I have been there before but somehow stumbled again today on the work of illustrator/designer AJ Dimarucot and was once again impressed by his work and style. It appears there are some new things in his book too that weren’t there the last time I dropped in. I am loving his free-wheeling style when it comes to type.
