Using the MTA’s actual subway schedule, the piece begins in realtime by spawning trains which departed in the last minute, then continues accelerating through a 24 hour loop. I know I have written about motion designer, illustrator and graphic designer Chris Saunders before but I had to do it just one more time. I visited his portfolio again the other day while looking for inspiration for motion boards and was once again totally moved by his portfolio. He has a wondrous hand when it comes to Photoshop and his use of color will melt your brain.
“More than a year in the making, the list of contributors to this piece is long in deed. Challenge Your World, a project conceived by famed art director Julien Vallée and in partnership with Motionographer.com, has been running even longer. The project is meant to stretch the mind and conceive of interesting ways we could help ye old planet Earth. Specifically, we were asked to develop the story of an abstract machine that would do good in the world. Of course, every story needs a villain; ours features a maniacal monster who seeks to destroy the planet. He burns down forests with the flick of a cigarette, pisses on helpless animals, and harpoons innocent whales. He’s sick! Twisted! Our hero is a fabulous flying Helmet chalk full of tubes and gears, pinwheels and dials, microchips and suction cups. When the Helmet spots an evil-doer, it lands on his head and promptly sucks the evil critters out of his brain…a lobotomy of sorts. So, when you’re contemplating dropping that wrapper or flicking that smoke, you better look over your shoulder.”

My good friend Ryan Bramwell has made a real splash on Denver in the past 2 years with his motion design company named Spillt. They have relaunched with an entirely new website that has been updated with several new projects including their new reel that you can watch above. Lots of good stuff in their portfolio and it makes me proud to call Ryan a friend and even prouder to be sharing space with him here in the fine city of Denver.

My good friends at Legwork Studio here in Denver were asked ‘what they learned last year’ (in 2010) by the local advertising blog The Denver Egotist. This is what they had to say and how they illuminated their response through their unique set of skills and personality.
My good friend Ryan Bramwell who is a Partner at Denver based motion design agency Spillt pulled out all the stops over the past several months with the help of several friends to piece together this pet project for Mc Subcon and Kam Moye. 130 custom made Photoshop brushes were used along with captured footage and a little Cinema 4D were used to animate this music video. It’s a truly local project utilizing all Denver talent across the board from music to motion integration.
