Kenichi Tanaka completed this amazing motion graphics piece highlighting some of the unique features of his home country Japan. He says his objective was to remind his fellow countrymen that all that is happening in Japan isn’t necessarily normal.

“1925 (aka Hell) is one of two animation loops directed by Max Hattler, inspired by the work of French outsider artist Augustin Lesage. 1925 is based on Lesage’s painting ‘A symbolic Composition of the Spiritual World’ from 1925.”

This is the promised followup to 1923 (aka Heaven) by Max Hattler several weeks back. Both films were created over the course of 5 days in February of 2010 with students at The Animation Workshop in Viborg, Denmark.

There were two short bumpers recently created by Umeric for Mtv and the one above is ‘Spot A’ You can watch ‘Spot B’ here. There has been talk about extending these into something a little more fully fleshed out which would surely be interesting to see.

Pete McDonald has been toiling away for some time at Buck, a studio that I have always respected especially considering some of the fantastic work they produced for us while I was at Cactus for the Own Your C campaign. The talent at Buck runs from floor to ceiling and even seeps all the way into the walls. Apparently Pete has recently decided to have a go at a freelance designer, illustrator and motionographer and as would be expected with someone who has worked for Buck, he has some nice work in his portfolio. Be sure to click through some of great drawings in McDonald’s sketchbook as well.

Nokta is a self-initiated experimental project created by Onur Senturk. It is an an improvisation of organic pieces considering themes like power, chance and luck. It’s also very other-worldly, trippy as hell and super cool.

“This video was made by Steffen Bygebjerg in 2009 for the song “End Scene”. The track is taken from Troels Abrahamsen’s album WHT also from 2009.

The animation work was made in Adobe After Effects. Each frame was then printed and the print was subsequently scanned back into the computer. The scanned frames were then assembled back into the original animation, now with a new rugged look, created by the visit in the physical analogue world. No effects added after scanning.”

This little video by Tapebox, a London-based animation duo comprised of Dan Hayhurst (audio) and Reuben Sutherland (visual) kind of tripped me out. I love the throwback reference to the zoetrope. I had to make one of those in college. Cool work indeed.
