Photographer Brad Elterman is one of those people you could say has ‘been there and done that’. After picking up his first camera at 16 his first photo of Bob Dylan performing onstage was publish in 1974. That you might say lead to a life of debauchery in the seventies when leaving school at the age of 19 he hit the road traveling with acts like Leif Garret, Boney M, The Eagles and Rod Stewart just to name a few. He covered the rock scene in Hollywood capturing intimate images of some of music’s most iconic stars. He has contributed those images to publications such as US, Creem, Circus, Rolling Stone, People, Hit Parader, Phonograph Record Magazine, Rock Magazine, Rock Scene, New York Post, National Enquirer, The StarJAPAN, Music Life, Rock ShowEUROPE, Muzeik Express, Photo Foto, Pop, Pop Rocky, Bravo, Das Freizeit, Magazun, Popcorn, Poster Magazine, Oh Boy, Fabulous 208, Jackie, Sounds, New Musical Express, Melody Maker. He was also often hired for official publicity photos by major record labels including RCA, Warner Bros, MCA, Mercury, Columbia, RSO and Capitol Records.

Photographer Charles Guthrie sent his work in this week and I was impressed by his candid and intriguing images. As opposed to butchering his biography in my own clumsy words, I will let him speak for himself:
“Charles Guthrie was born in Winter Park, Fl. He was raised and went to school in Orlando, Fl and New York City, however now he lives in Richmond, VA. Working mostly with photography and graphic design; armed with his endless fascination of youth culture, he creates a dark and challenging world with an ultimately optimistic outlook. He captivates viewers with his personal influence from skateboarding, music, traveling, ill logic, and the paranormal takes on society. Many small published works, zines, and widely traveled websites reflect the dedication and vision he sets out to create through his work. Currently, he spends his time furthering his academic knowledge and collaborating on small independent projects, in addition to pushing creative limits.”

French photographer Adeline Mai is still in her very early twenties and already capturing some gorgeous fashion and sometimes surreal dreamlike imagery that is well beyond her years. Personally, I am a huge fan of her underwater series. One can only imagine all the places she will go with such talent.

‘Haunting’ is the obvious word that comes to mind when trying to describe the images of photographer Todd Hido but it may not do them justice. There is something more there working beneath the service that seems to point towards some sort of post-industrial emptiness. Hido is highly educated having attended Tufts University in Massachusetts, Rhode Island School of Design and California College of Arts and Crafts receiving both a B.F.A. and an M.F.A. His work has been exhibited the world over.

New York-based photographer Gabriel Jones sent in a link to his portfolio and I have to say I was really impressed by his artistic imagery. He has some beautiful contemplative imagery in his book. The image above is eerily haunting.

I have seen the work of German photographer Martin Klimas some time back but have not visited his site in a very long time. Since my last visit he has updated with some amazing new image series. Klimas is currently represented by the Foley Gallery in New York and he can be commissioned for commercial work through Bransch.

He is a regular contributor to Rolling Stone, ESPN Magazine and Wired, among numerous othere. His work has been recognized by American Photography and Communication Arts. Paris-based photographer Marc Da Cunha Lopes has nothing really to say about himself at his website. That really makes no difference however because after a long, strange and fantastic scroll of remarkable conceptual imagery you know everything about him that you need to know.

Italian photographer Dido Fontana said about his work, “”…I’m interested in the representation in its true essence, with no unnecessary frills, accessories, special effects or extras”. You can easily draw similarities between Fontana’s approach and the work of Terry Richardson. Despite the comparison, there are some amazing images in Fontana’s portfolio of work. The raw, jarring and candid nature of his images have a staying power in the mind’s eye and aren’t easily forgotten.

In 2003 Andrew Faris graduated from Kent State University and promptly moved to New York City. He worked during the week as a web designer but over the weekend he would hit the streets with his parents Polaroid camera in hand. Everything NYC was new to Faris and he captured the city in a raw series of images that he decided he would share via NYCPP (the New York City Polaroid Project).

Billy & Hells have amassed a stunning body of portrait photography. Each image has been meticulously composed and portrays a unique personality from each subject. Sprinkled within the portraits are a few landscape shots that are equally wonderful and as much as I loved the portraits, I felt the landscape shots were high art.
