My guess is that it takes 3D artist Chris Labrooy a lot of time to generate one of his highly-detailed typographical illustrations. I wish I could say more about him but all that is up at his site is his work, his name, his email and his number.

Here is a new and amazingly slick advert for the launch of Adobe’s Production Premium CS5 Suite. The ad comes to you via Goodby, Silverstein & Partners with a large and long cast of credits that you can read through here.
Get out your wallets and dig deep. Really really deep.
Although I have posted the work of Russian illustrator/designer Alexandre Efimov before, there are a few new bits and bobs in his portfolio that are technically masterful enough to warrant another look at his work.

Commissioned by Past, Present & Future Craft Practice
The audio sample was taken from the film American Beauty.
“The focus of the Past, Present & Future Craft practice commission was to examine the intangible characteristic of the spoken word and investigate the unseen affect of sound upon its inhabited environment.
The project centralizes around the context of a domestic argument. In this case the event samples an audio excerpt from the 1999 Sam Mendes Film ‘American Beauty’. The slow building dialogue between the three central characters family dinner climaxes with a sound clash of emotions. The cross-fire of the argument traverses the dinning table but where previously the inanimate everyday objects such as plates, cutlery, teapot etc were unable to express their character, the intensity of the conversation deforms their once static existence into objects of unseen familiarity.
The presented sound artifacts each encapsulate a momentary emotion of the argument.”

There were two short bumpers recently created by Umeric for Mtv and the one above is ‘Spot A’ You can watch ‘Spot B’ here. There has been talk about extending these into something a little more fully fleshed out which would surely be interesting to see.

Round 6 is a made up video game trailer for a nonexistent game created by Snowball Studios. It’s a highly effective exercise and self-promotional piece to be sure. The attention to detail is staggering and it’s an impressive bit of 3D animation accomplished in a highly cinematic style.
Nokta is a self-initiated experimental project created by Onur Senturk. It is an an improvisation of organic pieces considering themes like power, chance and luck. It’s also very other-worldly, trippy as hell and super cool.
Holke79 has updated with a new reel that is serving as a temporary holder until he launches a new site. Site or not the reel is worth watching and jam packed with some great motion work.
Bay area native Alex Varanese has an unusual style all his own. I have seen his work before and posted it in prior versions of the blog but he has been staying busy and recently updated with a new series of experimental typographical layouts. He obviously has a fetish for the color orange, that much is easy to figure out and he has a thing for cassette tapes and the 80s. He is also very good at rendering 3d type and image. The one thing that you might not pick up on right away until spending a little time surfing around his site is that he also has a great sense of humor. He may or may not know that he is also a good writer. What I’m trying to say is this guy’s got some skills and I am picking up on what he is layin’ down.
Comments Off on Skyskraper – Digital MediaTechnology
Skyskraper is one of those agencies of the future that serves as a bit of a go-between for the creative agency to final placement and execution. I am learning a lot this year, out of necessity with the future of this website about media, media buying and media strategy. Skyskraper is a digital media agency responsible for helping execute on some of those rather intangible projects that we creatives sometimes spew out in concepting sessions but have no idea how to pragmatically realize in the physical world.
One such project they recently helped Flourish Creative complete was a projected 3D advent calendar for Google Chrome displayed on the facade of the Westfield building in London. The image was projected to align perfectly with the tiles in the facade which is not an easy thing to do. The end result was pretty impressive. This kind of partnership and companies like this are definitely something to keep an eye out for in the future of our business. You would think the capability to produce something like this would still fit under the roof of a typical ad agency, but as technology continues to move forward by leaps and bounds every year more and more agencies are turning toward digital media agencies to execute on concepts and strategy.
I am loving the look of Skyskraper’s blog as well. That tightly kerned Helvetica is looking sharp.
Robert Hodgin AKA Flight 404 has launched a new personal website exhibiting his experimental and now often commissioned work with Processing from the last few years. His work continues to amaze and grow into something that begs to be seen.
I am really digging this little experimental motion piece titled, ‘Metempsychosis’ from motionographer Alain Lores. I would love to see something like this utilizing typography. You can see more of Alain’s work here.
I am pretty sure I have posted animated gifs from David Ope before but there are some new and even crazier ones up now that are definitely worth checking out.
This is a just a great little piece of 3D animation.
