I’ve been a fan of Yker Moreno’s work for several years now. He keeps himself so busy at Buck that he rarely updates his portfolio much anymore. But he recently posted a few new tender nuggets of design and motion inspiration in his beloved book.

The guys in the studio turned me onto the motion work of the German studio Polynoid today. The work is slick, psychedelic and totally awesome (case in point the work for Mtv above). You can visit their website and portfolio here.
Well I am sure you have noticed that my blogging pace has slowed quite a bit these past few months. The reason being is that about 20 months ago I launched the Changethethought production studio. In the past year we have completed around 50 or so motion design, 3D, illustration and graphic design related projects. Our focus so far has tended to be motion and 3D but we are still delivering a lot of illustration and graphic design based projects for print. We are still very much just starting out with this new venture but we’ve managed to work with some exciting agencies and clients already. Our best projects so far are currently in the pipeline so please keep an eye on our portfolio as it will be changing often.

Sander van Dijk is a motion designer who has a very unique reel. He’s had a hand in animating for some heavy hitters like King and Country but he definitely has a unique perspective and his geometric inspired puzzle animations are extremely fun to watch.
Anck is the work of Renaud Futterer. He is a motion designer who recently relocated to London and is on the hunt for new projects. Judging by his reel, it probably won’t take him long to get busy.
“Brixton has degenerated into a disregarded area inhabited by London’s new robot workforce – robots built and designed to carry out all of the tasks which humans are no longer inclined to do. The mechanical population of Brixton has rocketed, resulting in unplanned, cheap and quick additions to the skyline.
The film follows the trials and tribulations of young robots surviving at the sharp end of inner city life, living the predictable existence of a populous hemmed in by poverty, disillusionment and mass unemployment. When the Police invade the one space which the robots can call their own, the fierce and strained relationship between the two sides explodes into an outbreak of violence echoing that of 1981.”

The almighty deacon of motion design and now live action, PSYOP have updated their site and reel with several new works and of course the imagery is sharp, amazing and beautiful as always. They continue to be a source of inspiration for fledgling shops like ours.
Esnake is the work of Orlando Peña. He’s a young Mexican motion designer with a pretty hot reel of work under his belt which you can see above.
This animated video that utilizes bright color and deceptively simple line work (which was no doubt complex to create) by Luke Gibbs is nothing short of awesome.
Jens Blank makes great use of live action footage and 3D in this fun little experimental piece that quickly evolves from something very low-fi to a solid amount of production value.

Someone brought this to my attention a couple of weeks back in the studio and I forgot to post it. It’s stuck in my mind ever since the first viewing and now it will be stuck in yours.
Pitch Black’s showreel for 2011 is pretty nasty. And by nasty we mean rad. And by rad we mean dope. And by…well you get the picture now just watch the reel.

Here’s what the Italian Motion Design studio Nerdo had to say about their recent project for IDN that involved a pretty eye-catching mashup of live action and 3D:
“One of the world’s most important design magazine gave us the opportunity to create the dvd opening titles for the outcoming issue ‘IdN Video v18n4’.
We had total freedom to give birth to a video without any restrictions, experimenting with techniques that we never used before.
It was a huge effort in a short time but we had a lot of fun and we learned so much.”

Birdy Nam Nam keeps the interest high both visually and musically with their latest video for the single “GOIN’IN”.
Axtorworld is the work and universe of a guy named Axtor (go figure) and it’s kind of a strange and sometimes scary place. It’s kind of fun in a trippy psychedelic way though just try to keep your sanity while browsing.
This trailer for Resistance 3 references some of the art created for the cover by Olly Moss but it goes way beyond that. The minimal use of color and reference to printed effects make this a showstopping piece of animation completed by Spov Design + Moving Image.
