“‘The Travels of Bad‘ documents the travels of an idealist Machiavellian hero, guitar in hand, on a crusade to revitalise the arts of the culture capital of the world. Fuelled by equal measures of blind optimism and hedonism, the search for new ideas and exotic flavours takes our hero to a fictional paradise setting where this bizarre satirical action tragedy literally starts to unravel.

The Travels of Bad comprises a 48-page mini-novella with 17 photographic works and a 17-track album soundtrack. The exhibition includes a selection of sculptures and merchandise.

The works will also feature prominently at the JoBurg Art Fair from 3-5 April 2009 at the Rooke Gallery stand and the exhibition will travel to WhatIfTheWorld/Gallery in Cape Town to open on 27 May 2009 and close on 27 June 2009.”

Chinese calligraphy meets Jackson Pollock in the sumi ink sky paintings captured in photographs for artist Shinichi Maruyama. The end result of which is gorgeous artwork and imagery.

Tattoo artist, Scott Campbell, recently exhibited at the O.H.W.O.W. gallery in Miami, Florida. Part of the exhibition consisted of a series of laser-cut etchings on stacks of 1 dollar bills. The collection is entitled “Make It Rain” (which undercuts with razor-sharp irony).

David Spriggs’s artwork is just flat out amazing. It’s beautifully complex yet stunning in simplicity without ignoring concept. The end result is what I am sure must be an experience to behold in person. The above piece was made using sprayed acrylic paint on multiple sheets of transparent film inside a display case.

Chuck Anderson of No Pattern turned me onto this artist through Twitter. I probably spent an hour out of my night clicking back and forth through the work of Jeremy Geddes. His paintings take concept scenarios to the point of photo realism; some very shocking, some unsettling, but there is something to be said for all of the work in this portfolio.

Jaakko Mattila is a Finnish artist who works primarily with geometric shapes but also branches out into more organic forms of abstract compositions. Although I was at first drawn more towards his geometric-focused pieces, I was really taken by the above gloss on board painting.

Someone emailed this to me today, I apologize for forgetting names but I was really impressed by the work of painter Ricky Allman. I am a fan of merging the abstract expressionistic world with the subjective. I think a unique kind of surrealism arises from the union. I would love to have one of Allman’s paintings in my living room. Beautiful work.
