I am really digging these guys. It’s a little tough to drum up information about them just yet since they are pretty fresh on the scene but I’ve got my ear to the ground for the release of their first album.

It consists of Tom Dougall (Vox/Guitars), Dominic O’Dair (Guitars), Maxim Barron (Bass/Vox), Alejandra Diez (Synthesizers/Modulation) and Charlie Salvidge (Drums/Vox). TOY’s musical influences incorporate a wide range of genres including punk, psychedelia, krautrock, post rock to name a few and they explore experimental recording techniques in the studio.
With the majority of 2010 spent writing, TOY played their first show at the Cave Club in Islington earlier this year. Since then the band have played a string of live performances including Field Day and 1234 festivals and have supported bands such as The Horrors and The Pretty Things. Their first single – Left Myself Behind – is out now. “
I just returned the week before last from a 3 week trip to Brazil. My wife’s family (in case you don’t know) is from Northern Brazil. Teresina to be exact. So I spent a few weeks there along with a trip to Parnaiba and a few days at the beach for Carnival in Luís Correia. Yes it was nice.
I am always curious as to what is playing on TV when I am on the flipside of the equator and immediately noticed some standout branding spots for TLC and after a little research uncovered they were of course done by none other than Brazilian motion designer Nando Costa.
Anytime I hear a band might be supporting a Radiohead tour (Radiohead being one of my all time favorite bands) well…my ears perk up. And Other Lives is doing just that. The song ‘Tamer Animals’ The song is the title track off of their album under the same name. I highly recommend checking it out.
Alexander Wright (Modovisual), designed the exclusive type face ‘Alicia‘ for HypeForType. It’s a complex, slightly retro and ready-for-press typeface that will immediately demand recognition upon use.
“Character is a San Francisco-based, independent creative agency with a passion for launching, rejuvenating and propelling brands. Our goal is to create lasting and meaningful relationships between our client’s brand and their audience through smart thinking and intelligent design.”
I was informed that Character likes to ‘fly under the radar’ but that might be hard to do with the portfolio they are developing. It’s worth talking about as there is some strong project work represented under the Character brand.
Adam Batchelor and Christopher Joyner have created an online gallery currently based in the east of England called W.E.L.C.O.M.E. There is some interesting work being represented so far and the venture looks promising considering the cache of talent. The ‘sole purpose’ of the gallery is in providing a new and innovative space for young upcoming artists to showcase and sell print editions of their work.

Robert Hardgrave A.K.A. Farmer Bob has kept at it and is still updating with his unique brand of abstract expressionism. That’s probably not the right term for what he does but it will at least start the conversation in describing his work.

Andrei Ograda is a freelance graphic artist/designer from Bucharest, Romania who is currently “trapped” in Spain where he claims it has become near impossible to find work. He’s ready to travel and open to work anywhere in Europe or maybe even the U.S. He’s got some very unique work in his portfolio which is why I am mentioning it here. So hook the guy up already.

Oliver Munden is an illustrator with impressive range. He can shift from Mike Giant style inky black & white, to graphite, to neon pop and do it all really well. It’s no surprise that he’s currently a Senior Designer at ILoveDust, a favorite here at Changethethought™. I definitely look forward to seeing more work from Oliver. Check out his online portfolio MEGAMUNDEN.
Jacob Sutton has created a mesmerizing film that captures a world most of us will never experience. Tearing down a mountain at night seems like a dangerous venture, but it looks phenomenal.
