Wow, what exactly to say about the sublime work of artist Aron Wiesenfeld other than his skills are off the charts. His work is an open invitation to the viewer to insert their own narrative as to what exactly is happening within his drawings and paintings. His charcoal drawings are absolutely fantastic.

I gotta say that the more Lain Macarthur produces, the more I love his work. It just keeps getting better and better. He’s still very young too which points toward a long and productive career as an illustrator. His recent series inspired by the movie Black Swan is very well rendered but maintains a grit that makes the imagery accessibly artistic. Good stuff.

Creative writer Matthew Newton has a great interview up with Sam Green at the moment. He’s one of my favorite illustrators and has been from since he started. He’s an interesting character and seems like a cool guy as well. Newton is doing an amazing job with the interviews at Cpluv and checking back to his column is always a good idea for the design and illustration-inclined. It’s nice to see a serious journalist taking the time to highlight some of our industry’s more unique talent.
Ashkahn Shahparnia (pronounced Ash-Con-Shaw-par-neeyah) makes fun and funny things. Despite their deceptively simple appearance there is some interesting thinking bubbling cynically just under the surface of all of his work. It’s a funny but provocative affair and he recently updated with all kinds of new goodies, most of which would definitely illicit a response between giver and receiver. I wonder, is Purple Rain made out of Purple Drank?
Straight up weird but fascinating illustrations are pouring from the hand of Tim Enthoven including the above beer drinking hipster dad intellectuals. It’s hard to gather if Enthoven has a real point of view but he does have the chops to put out some curious imagery.
Hand-drawing typographer Jon Contino has stayed at the top of his form lately updating frequently with new and better examples of his uniquely individual touch. There is a little something for everyone in his portfolio and whether your a fan of hand crafted type or not it’s impossible not to appreciate his talent.
Artist Melissa Cooke answers the question as to just how detailed can you actually get with graphite? She does so with large stunning portraits that are spectacular in the attention paid to detail and the lifelike photographic resemblance of the sitter. There is no hiding the genuine talent required to produce such amazing images directly from mind to hand.
