Passion Pit released their EP titled ‘Chunk of Change’ a while back and I spaced writing about it. I think they are great band and really really like their music. I did some album covers for them a while back and was sincerely disappointed that they didn’t like any of them. I think they ended up using art that one of the guys from the band produced himself. That happens a lot when designing for the music industry. It comes with the territory. Regardless, their EP is still fantastic, and I highly recommend picking it up.
Gnarls Barkley will be releasing a new digital EP on Nov.11th with a new track and a remix of ‘Whose Gonna Save My Soul’. Gnarls Barkley is releasing four different versions of the song “Who’s Gonna Save My Soul” on a digital EP aptly titled ‘Who’s Gonna Save My Soul’, on Nov. 11. The EP will also include a live version of “Neighbors” recorded at the 40-Watt Club in Athens, Ga., and last but not least the non-album track “Mystery Man.” Apparently ‘Mystery Man’ is a the first song recorded for a new upcoming album and should be a little glimpse into where Gnarls is headed. They recently released the somewhat cryptic video above to promote the upcoming release of the EP. You can find out more when November 11th draws near at Gnarls’ official website.

This is probably the most sadly nerdy thing I have seen in a really long time, but hey this is a design blog and this is a design rap. It had to be posted.
From the source:
“Animated light paintings of a little piano player performing. Filmed at night with the lovely I-5 and San Diego skyline in the background. Frames were photographed with a Canon Rebel using 20-30 second exposure time. A small green LED keychain light was used to draw each frame. Once all the positions were photographed they were strung together and synchronized to the music in After Effects.”
Goddamnit I love this fucking song. It makes me want to jump off of someone’s roof into a swimming pool. I was lucky enough to stumble upon this on a trip to New York last week. I have no idea why I haven’t heard this gem yet. I think it is because I have been doing nothing but working my ass off for the last year or so. But man, am I glad I heard this diddy. I just can’t stop listening to it. It just kicks ass pure and simple. It makes me want to kick a door down and smash a guitar into a floor. Awesome.
Honestly, this song is without a doubt the high water mark on the MGMT album Oracular Spectacular. It is a very high water mark however. I am a lyrics man, since I used to write them and did my best at being a lead singer in a band or two when I was a young pup, and damnit it all to hell if I don’t just love the vicious unrepentant rock anthem lyrics in this song.
Don’t get me wrong there are some other tasty licks on this album but this one just turns my crank. Hard.
“This music video directed by OneInThree for ‘Wild Beasts’ second single of their debut album ‘Limbo Panto’ is a mesmerising & hypnotic tour de force. It pioneers an amazing mind bending visual technique called the ‘Droste Effect’ which is based on an uncompleted lithograph that Escher made in 1956. The maths behind the lithograph was so complicated that Escher was unable to finish the centre of the picture and so left it blank. OneInThree developed the technique from Josh Sommers code so that it could be applied to moving images and apart from a grade & online at The Mill did all the VFX themselves.”
Jonas Odell (co-founder and director at Film Tecknarna) along with Nexus Productions, helped produce this 80’s inspired, Warhol-collage video for Norwegian rocker Ida Maria.

Nice little extra somethin’ somethin’ for a Friday afternoon.
After their first well received collaboration with REM (Hollow Man), Crush follows up with “Man Sized Wreath.” This piece deals with an anonymous man’s daily routine and shows us how lost and alienated we can become in our visually saturated and over-stimulating environment.
“[As Hollow Man] was intended as a statement about isolation, the fear of losing who we are. This film is a more pointed statement about the state of the world politically, and the idea that we are all hypnotized by so much meaningless diversion we don’t focus on things that matter.”
No cameras or lights were used. Instead two technologies were used to capture 3D images: Geometric Informatics and Velodyne LIDAR. Geometric Informatics scanning systems produce structured light to capture 3D images at close proximity, while a Velodyne Lidar system that uses multiple lasers is used to capture large environments such as landscapes. In this video, 64 lasers rotating and shooting in a 360 degree radius 900 times per minute produced all the exterior scenes.
Watch the making-of video to learn about how the video was made and the various technologies that were used to capture and render 3D data.”
The brilliant people behind Adult Swim have put together a follow up mix to the free Ghostly Swim album that came out a few months ago. The new mix is titled, ‘World Wide Renewal Program‘ and features a collection of Chocolate Industries artists. Cover art by Razauno. As far as I can tell there are several new releases and some potentially unreleased tracks. I was really blown away by the quality of the last mix and this new one is every bit as good. Download it now for free and enjoy. Thank you Adult Swim.
