Photographer Mary Robinson has captured the current throwback hip aesthetic beautifully in her imagery. Her overlay shots are exceptionally well composed. Robinson is from Atlanta, Georgia and apparently she is only 17 years old. That’s amazing considering the maturity of her eye. She definitely has a future and it would be wise to keep watch for where she goes and what she does next.
Photographer Jan Otto Schreiber bought a ticket to travel on a cargo ship to Australia last year and embarked upon a two month odyssey before reaching shore. While on board he photo-documented to trip in a series he titled ‘Somewhere Between the Shores’. The result is some beautifully contemplative imagery that will definitely pull the Mark Twain heart strings in the under-traveled heart. I’d love to take a similar journey but alas between home, new business and baby-on-the-way I will have to photo journal an entirely different trip.

I have written about graphic designer Klas Ernflo before and there is always excellent work in his portfolio worth looking into. I didn’t realize however that he is also a very talented photographer and you can bear witness to that fact by visiting his Flickr-folio where he stores his image exploits. What a multidimensional talent.
Brazilian design and photography studio Grima has a small but interesting body of work. There is not a lot in their book but what is there shows that they have a wide range of capabilities and take a unique approach to each project.
Photographer Tim Simmons lives and works in London and Norfolk. His landscapes can only be described as ‘haunting’. It’s a descriptor that is probably to often used when it comes to something like photographer but it genuinely is the proper word to use when attempting to describe Simmons beautiful imagery.
Photographer and designer Elise has some gorgeous work in her portfolio for some very large brands. Her photography work is stunning and it’s amazing that she can keep her design at the same level. A true talent.
Russian illustrator, designer and motionographer Vladimir Tomin has some fun work in both his home website portfolio at Space Jump and also in his Behance-folio. The above image was apparently made photographing cereal and vegetables.
I am a little surprised I haven’t heard of Australian photographer Tim Richardson yet. He is currently based in New York and has worked for some huge clients. He has also recently published two books and his most recent film installation for the Sydney Dance Company is part of the Venice Dance Biennale in 2010. He is remarkably talented and his talent extends far beyond the medium of photography.
Photographer Jeremy Kohm got his start taking surf photos while living in Japan. Later he moved to Australia where he spent time studying at the Australian Centre for Photography. He now resides in Toronto where he stays busy shooting for both advertising and editorial projects. He is affiliate photographer for Fever Films.
Russian photographer Olya Ivanova gets up close and personal with her subjects and captures them as they are with no added frills. The end result is often contemplative, completely human and personally introspective.
Swedish photographer and retoucher Erik Johansson sees no limit to what combining image making with manipulation can allow the creator to achieve. In essence he uses retouching to turn his photos into art. Many of them are exercises in surrealism and are a lot of fun to look at.
I am sure you have seen these photographs of Berlin by German photographer Matthias Heiderich before. I actually confused them with some of the photos of ISO50’s Scott Hansen. The photos themselves are just beautiful with both the use of color and refined composition. You can see more in Heiderich’s Behance-folio.
French photographer Stéphane Fugier primary focus is nudes and yet his imagination within that one simple confine pushes boundaries by intertwining his subjects with symbolism and environment.
Red Circle Photography is the work of Spanish photographer Mike Burdon who captures some gorgeous skydiving imagery that looks so surreal it almost appears as though it was rendered in 3D. He also keeps up on his Behance-folio where you can check out a little more of his work.
Comments Off on Alison Scarpulla: UpdatesPhotography
New York based mysticism photographer Alison Scarpulla has updated her Flickr-folio in the last few weeks with more cosmic psychedelic imagery that harkens back to a more ‘trippy’ time. I am really impressed with her recent works and won’t be surprised if a band takes her on for some album art in the very near future.
Photographer Nikki Toole is originally Scottish but now based in Australia. Toole’s latest project is called Skater and captures skaters right off the street presenting them in an objective and stark light. It’s portraits of skaters just simply being who they are and what makes them so unique. One of the images is currently hanging in the National Portrait Gallery of Australia. Toole is currently looking for skaters in London, Prague, Berlin, Venice and Rome this year.
