Photographer Nicholas Hance McElroy has an eye for capturing some arresting scenes from quiet places around the world that I would guess most of us wouldn’t mind pausing for a moment to refresh the soul. The desaturation of his imagery enhances the contemplative aura of the scene.

Lars Botten is primarily, well he is a fashion photographer but he is more dimensional than that. Not only does he have an amazing eye for his beautiful subjects, that eye occasionally wanders and captures the surrounding environment with just as much artistic care and consideration.

Photographer Eliot Lee Hazel has a beautiful eye for composition and drama. Each image is tailored for scene and mood. He is a storyteller and every picture feels as though it has been lifted from a larger narrative and you are peeking in on a random moment. It leaves you curious for more and in my opinion is the mark of a talented photographer.

I am not sure if it’s Jon Estwards or if this photographer’s real name is Jon Edwards which perhaps he might want to alter for obvious reasons but regardless, his work speaks for itself. It’s dark, grainy and sometimes disturbing but it’s also artistic, surreal and beautiful in it’s own way. There is a healthy portfolio of images in his Flickr pages and some of them you have to look twice at before you realize exactly what it is you are seeing.

Canadian photographer Simon Duhamel has launched a new site featuring some new imagery for 2010. Early in 2009 he co-founded Made of Stills as his new headquarters. Doing so added DP (Director of Photography) to his resume. He is now also shooting for stop motion and video.

Wow, photographer Chris Sisarich snaps some amazing images from places around the world most of us will never have the chance to see and sometimes he does it in the name of advertising. Not a bad gig but it’s all due to his genuine talent.

San Francisco based Photographer Aimee Brodeur has what could be described as a ‘free-spirited’ sense about her imagery. It’s a sun-dappled surreal affair that makes you want to push away the laptop and head out to take in some scenery. The imagery feels very personal as if an intimate moment was just snapped just in the nick of time.

Drew Levin is a local Boulder, Colorado based photographer with an absolutely astounding eye for capturing intensely personal and stunningly beautiful moments that any average viewer would miss. He snapped some amazing photos earlier last month of the Four Mile Canyon fire. It’s sadly ironic that such beautiful images stemmed from such a tragic event. It’s always a pleasure however to stumble upon another gifted local.

Maciek Pozoga has captured many unusual, personal and sometime ethereal images that exude a style that seems to come directly from capturing the personality of his sitters and surroundings.

There is a spiritual-side albeit a ‘hip’ spiritual-side to the imagery captured by Australian photographer Ryan Thomas Kenny. Something is lurking just beneath the surface of his photos that creates a tension between color, mood and subject.

I scarcely have words to describe how fantastic I think the photos are taken by Justin Fantl. They are just magnificent. He has an eye that manages to capture the aura of the scenes that he stops to shoot. I don’t know how deliberate his locations are of if they come by him more happenstance but the result is unforgettable imagery.

The Anthropologist has a inspiring study on display collected by photographer Phillip Toledano. Through photos and narrative he relates his story of being a somewhat reluctant father after the birth of his first daughter but eventually giving way to genuine love over the months of seeing her grow into a little human being. As an expectant father and one who has sometimes been a selfish creative bastard in the past, it was a heartfelt telling and gave me a lot of food for thought. It’s an intensely personal experience that he shares and it’s worth the read and makes the pictures all the more inspiring. Thank you for sharing your story Phillip.

I am not always attracted to fashion photography but Marie-Fleur Charlesworth is an enormous talent. The talent extends well beyond fashion into landscapes and their is an emotional depth to the work that is sometimes lacking in fashion imagery. I was drawn to the above photo because a car almost exactly like the one in the image is always parked in a lot across the street from my home.

Boston.com has assembled an impressive array of images gathered from different satellites and space missions for their ‘Big Picture‘ column. I have long been a fan of all things pertaining to outer space since I was a very small child. It was really my only other love outside of art. I wanted to attend space camp desperately but my parents didn’t think they could afford to send me. It has kind of been a bummer that space themes have been so trendy in the last few years because I feel like I have to avoid using space imagery in my work but it’s always the imagery I feel compelled to start with. I hope that my child’s generation will finally begin real space exploration. That would be something to see.

“Tod Seelie has photographed in over twenty countries on five different continents. His work has appeared in publications such as Rolling Stone, The NY Times, New York Magazine, Spin, Marie Claire, Jane, Vice, i-D, Paper, XXL, Art In America, Flash Art, Parade Magazine, Time Out NY, Adbusters, Nerve.com, and Hamburger Eyes among others.”
Seelie has some downright beautiful images to look at at his modest website. He possesses the eye of a true artist behind the lens.
