Eugenio Recuenco continues to fill his amazing portfolio with yet more and more gorgeous photography. His talent is enormous and some of his more recent images do not disappoint and are every bit as original and interesting as his archived work. If you have seen his work before it is worth another visit and if you haven’t seen his work, don’t hesitate for a second and go see it now.

Joakim Eskildsen

Joakim Eskildsen takes absolutely downright gorgeous photographs of people from far away places some of us will never lay eyes upon. There is a lot there I can identify with after my time in the poorest state in Brazil. He captures the people as they are and their souls are laid bare in his imagery. Stunning work.

His bio: “Joakim Eskildsen was born in Copenhagen in 1971 where he trained with the Royal Court photographer Rigmor Mydtskov. In 1994, he moved to Finland to learn the craft of photographic book making with Pentti Sammallahti at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, graduating with an MA degree in photography in 1998. His publications include Nordic Signs (1995), Bluetide (1997), iChickenMoon (1999), which was awarded Best Foreign Title of 2000 in the Photo-Eye Books & Prints Annual Awards, the portfolio al-Madina (2002), which was made in collaboration with Kristoffer Albrecht and Pentti Sammallahti, and the book The Roma Journeys (2007, Steidl).”

If you are interested in contemporary photography I am sure David LaChapelle needs no introduction. However, his recent exhibition was really amazing and if you haven’t visited his site for a while it is worth checking out. His site runs very slow and I have no idea why but if you can spare the patience, the photographs are just amazing.

Lyle Owerko

owerko.jpg

Lyle Owerko is a photographer and filmmaker with a diverse roster of clients that include major brands, corporation and human rights groups. Known for his perception and knowledge of urban movements, his instinctually crafted visual images have found an indelible place in the lexicon of pop culture and journalism. In a morning that will stay with him forever, Lyle photographed the image that appeared on the cover of Tim Magazines September 11, 2001 issue. His current projects seek to bridge ethnic borders in a manner that documents cultural groups for the betterment of the human condition. Lyle was raised in Calgary, Canada, studied at The Pratt Institute in New York, and currently resides in TriBeca with his girlfriend Shaundra and their dog Luna.”

Wouldn’t ‘Lexicon of Pop Culture’ make a great title for an album. Sorry, just an observation. His ghetto blaster series makes an indelible mark on my lexicon of photography culture.

I know I have seen the work of Paul Graves before and I am pretty sure I have written about it but he has a lot of new work on his website that is worth checking out. It bothers me that the images are so small. I think if you are a photographer you should be showing your imagery as big as you can get it since that is your bread and butter. Even though the images are small you can see that Graves has an amazing sense of color and composition and he has the unique ability to adhere a memorable personality to strange inanimate objects. His work is very original and not easily forgettable. Spend some time clicking around because he has photographed a broad spectrum of subjects.

Photographer Robert Charbonnet loves the little things about women that make them the most sensual creatures on Earth. He loves things like their hair, lips and eyes. I love those things too, so it was hard for me not to appreciate his work. I think I need to learn how to be a photographer.

Insanely elaborate and controversial photography making use of highly decorated sets and exaggerated models is happening in the wild portfolio of David Houncheringer. It’s not for the faint of heart but damn is it interesting and entertaining. It’s not exactly the real world but a hyper-colorized surreal world he is capturing. The end result is both creative and startling. I dig it.
