Brighton based illustrator Jamie Cullen has an interesting mish mash of influences represented in his imagery including references to pop culture but with a throwback 70’s sensibility created out of undeniable modern vector art.

Dudes Factory have some absolutely kick ass tees by some of my favorite illustrators like McBess. The only problem is that between the prices and the shipping they have priced their way out of most buyers in the U.S., especially in this economy. If you can swing it, they have a nice catalog of tees for man, woman and child.
Japanese artist Yasuhiro Sakurai creates some divine wooden sculptures that must require some amazing talent to carve. The personality of the sitter remains intact with a haunting impact. It’s all in the eyes.
Phantom City Creative is a Toronto based illustration and design studio that has turned out some fantastic posters lately for some of their favorite movies. The posters are actually for sale too but only come in small 11×17 sizes. I would give anything to see some of the pieces printed larger because the quality of the illustrations and the compositional arrangement is top notch. Keep an eye on this studio.
Oliver Franklin Anderson created this stunning piece as a part of his studies at Calarts.
I have been a fan of illustrator James Jirat Patradoon for several years now. He has recently updated with both a new website and several new illustrations for various clients. He’s kept his edge and is still churning out some great stuff.
Emrah Gonulkirmaz is a BNA Logo Identity Animation winner because of this wild piece created for Colr Inc.
Amazing cut paper sculptor Jen Stark has her work brought to life in this stop motion video with music by Dan Deacon.
How can you not appreciate the mix of religion, cynicism and pop art that is the work of Jiri Geller especially when it arrives in the form of super high gloss polished resin.
Eric at Doe Eyed has updated with some excellent new posters including a particular favorite of mine for Mogwai. Eric is actually related to a very old highschool/college friend of mine who is also a graphic designer. It’s a small world I guess especially when you are from Nebraska.
Mash Creative (who reached out to us) and Design Museum recently released a new series of minimal yet affordable products as a part of their State of the Obvious line. The entire collection is available only through the Design Museum shop and features some beautifully designed pieces like iPhone and tablet skins.
Creative Director, Mark Bloom had this to say about the release:
“Extending the philosophy & thinking behind our branded State of the Obvious collection, we have designed a set of products exclusively for the Design Museum.
The design of these products has been heavily influenced by the International Typographic Style from the 50’s and 60’s & shows an evolution from our original S/O/T/O collection. It has been designed to appeal to typography and design lovers alike.
At S/O/T/O we design and produce products which not only look good but also have a useful function.”
Olly Moss caused quite a stir with his recent lasercut silhouette solo show at Gallery 1988. The gallery has sponsored and help bring forward some very interesting artists who are merging influences from movies, cartoons and pop culture. Olly’s poster work for the Alamo Drafthouse has helped his work reach a growing and passionate audience hungry for more. His show was a smash success with people lined up around the block to buy his prints. Apparently celebrities like Patton Oswalt were even at the show to grab a print while they lasted. Threadless has put together a nice little synopsis of the show that you can watch above and Slash Film also has a great interview with Moss posted on their site.
Tom Darracott is an independent designer and art director. After studying at Saint Martins where he earned an MA in Visual Communication he joined the design studio Village Green where he worked on a projects for several notable clients. In 2011 he took the plunge and went solo with a strong showing in his current portfolio.

Software giant Microsoft has purchased the online telephone network Skype for $8.5 billion. Why exactly is the big question.
Brooklyn-based silkscreen poster and graphic design studio Two Arms Inc, have updated with some excellent posters for some excellent bands like Ra Ra Riot.
“Kathleen has been preparing for her own death for over ten years when she first volunteered for hospice care. And quite uniquely, she is also a hospice volunteer. Even with a terminal illness she continues on with good humor and a buddhist-like sensibility- seeing her end as just another thing that happens – just like her fabulous dinner parties.”
This is a segment from the documentary film, “Lessons for the Living.”
