London based illustrator Ruben Ireland uses ink, dirty water, acrylic, weathered paper, a wacom tablet and Photoshop to create his lyrical illustrations. Strangely enough after employing all of this media his work retains an almost vector-like quality. His images are very clean and stylistic but his subject matter is often playful. He has recently updated his portfolio.

I rediscovered the work of Frank Magnotta today. There really is nothing like his graphite drawings. They are just strange, yet familiar and genuinely imaginative. The dimensional quality of his drawing is seriously impressive and it’s difficult to devise how exactly he goes about generating his unique images.

Victo Ngai’s unique cultural heritage is alive and kicking in her illustrations. Her images are simple and accessible in subject but rich in color and movement. They retain a distinctly asian influence that references Japanese and Chinese ink prints. She spent some time on her bio, so as opposed to butchering it in my own words, you can read on below:
“Victo’s real name is Ngai Chuen Ching.
She was born and raised in Hong Kong.
She got her English name, Victoria, when she was in a British kindergarten as Ngai Chuen Ching was too hard to pronounce for the foreign teachers.
However, “Victoria” was too hard for her fellow Chinese classmates, so they started calling her Victo instead. Since “Ngai Chuen Ching” was only called/yelled by teachers or parents when Victo got into troubles, she decided she likes the name “Victo” better.
Victo has been wondering who she really is, where she really belongs to for all these time.
Victo’s cultural background is hard to nail down: she speaks Chinese(Both Cantonese and Mandarin), English and Japanese. She attended Christian schools, but is not Christian. She holds a British National (Overseas) passport but is not truly British. She is a Hong Kong citizen but does not have a Chinese ID card. Her parents live in Hong Kong; her grandparents are Chinese American living in the west coast of the States; and Victo went to Rhode Island School of Design on the east coast.”

Super Secret Pow Wow is the drawing and illustration work of Britt Sanders who is ‘really good at drawing your girlfriend’. I think that last comment implies that Brit isn’t afraid of adding a little extra sex appeal to her work but he does it with some real style. I used to want to nut punch people in advertising who when wanting to have an impromptu meeting would decree ‘alright let’s pow wow’ now I want to nut punch people who say ‘well at the end of the day’ but I digress. I actually really like the tongue in cheek happening in the name ‘Super Secret Pow Wow’.

Curt Melo is passionate about editorial illustration and by that he means he loves not just to create imagery for editorial use but create imagery that tells a story. He has a definite style but that style is employed to empower the image and communicate that story the end result of which is art.

You do well to remember the name Louis Lander-Deacon who at the age of 17 is responsible for some absolutely beautiful images. His photography taps into the subconscious in a way that a much older an more accomplished artist could only hope for over the course of a career. There’s no telling where he will go but it will definitely be fun to watch him get there. Keep an eye out.

Philippe Chabot on his work, “My work deals with absurdity, dumbness, disenchantment, cult and decay. I am interested in the ways television, radio, web and entertainment culture affect our social and individual identities. I am also intrigued by the position of painting among all the other forms of visual media that surrounds us, and I believe that visual art, in its institutional format, is evolving away from the general public.”
I haven’t just flat out ‘liked’ someone’s fine art in a while as much as I like Chabot’s. It’s like a blender of Francis Bacon, Warhol, Jean Michel Basquiat and maybe just a hair of Walt Disney thrown in for seasoning. It’s everything I love combined.

“Silver Screen Society is a group of designers and friends that work toward creating art and designs honoring the many stories told through the world of cinema. The project’s roots lie in the book clubs of yore, with each month bringing a new film and cast of contributors that carry with them their own unique interpretations and ideas.’
Hopefully these will someday be printed although rights issues associated with film are notoriously sticky.

Not entirely sure where this originated but I plucked it from the Tumblrverse here. I just thought it was a fine little bit of animated gif goodness and decided it must be shared here.
