Artist Will Barras has recently updated his site with some new and spectacular paintings. There is something extremely dark dynamic about his surreal paintings. The imagery appears to be swirling in a subconscious vortex and many of his works appear as though they might just move right off the canvas. Beautiful work.

Artist and illustrator Andres Guzman has been busy lately and has recently uploaded some wonderful new works to his blog. Originally born in Lima, Peru he spent most of his youth in Denver, Colorado before attending the Minneapolis School of Art and Design to earn a degree in illustration. He’s a talented guy and I would recommend keeping an eye out for him in the future. He has already worked with some big clients. He also has an art exhibition with Justin Renteria Friday Nov. 5th at IndyInk in downtown Denver. The show starts at 7 and runs until 11. You can learn all you need to know about the show at Indyink’s website.

Animated gif artist David Ope has updated with some excellent new examples of simple animated psychedelia. The example above in particular is absolutely ace.

I have posted the utterly bizarre animated gif art of Francoise Gamma before but there is more strangeness recently posted. This work really is art whether you like it or not. And yes, it is also very strange.

Creative writer Matthew Newton has a great interview up with Sam Green at the moment. He’s one of my favorite illustrators and has been from since he started. He’s an interesting character and seems like a cool guy as well. Newton is doing an amazing job with the interviews at Cpluv and checking back to his column is always a good idea for the design and illustration-inclined. It’s nice to see a serious journalist taking the time to highlight some of our industry’s more unique talent.

Oh snizzap, it’s time for animated gifs but these are special because they come from the mind of master animated gif artist Brandon Jan Blommaert. He keeps updating with more and more amazing examples of what he is carving out as a unique niche for himself.

Argentinian illustrator Christian Montenegro has a geometric style that still manages to maintain a tangible aesthetic. It’s obviously digital but crafted to feel like it’s touched paper through the hand. There is a bold use of color and fun characters all created in a highly accessible style throughout his extensive portfolio.

Oil painter Alex Gross mish-mashes references to pop consumerism in surrealistic and sometimes apocalyptic portraits that could double as cynical ads. It’s imagery that is tailer made for Adbusters. Some of the most interesting paintings mix in current references to popular fashion and the constant distraction of cellular culture. He’s an artist with a point of view and the best guess is that when he looks around at where society currently stands, he probably isn’t particularly fond of what he’s seeing.

Santa Clarita resident and designer/illustrator Bijan Berahimi is cranking out some fun imagery with a hand-crafted touch. He’s also none to shabby at incorporating typography into the visual situation when it’s called for.

Liverpool-born illustrator Richard Kilroy draws heavily upon the works of fashion photographers Herb Ritts, David Sims, Jean Paul Goude, Vincent Peters and Mert & Marcus, to illustrators George Stavrinos, Julie Verheoven, Richard Gray and Alphonse Mucha. His drawings mish-mash fashion with abstract art to create something that falls somewhere between the two. This now past summer Kilroy took the role of acting editor launching DECOY: Visual Distraction, a newspaper based primarily on fashion illustration and related areas of interest. He also became commissioning editor of Ponystep.

The Re:form School Exhibition took place this weekend in NY and it sounds as though it was a success. I have to apologize for not posting about this a long long time ago. It was a royal screw up for which I feel a little ashamed. We have just been so slammed here at the studio trying to get on top of running our new venture that all things blog and exhibition have been pushed into the background a little.
All excuses aside, this was an important show that managed to pull together some really amazing artists around the cause of education reform. It’s an issue that needs some serious support from the younger generations right now. The show was put together by REDU, a coalition of creatives and educators working toward rethinking, reforming and rebuilding US education.
The actual exhibition happened over the weekend between the hours of 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM at 233 Mott Street, New York City, NY 10012. As far as I know the show is now closed, which is why I feel like a real ass for not posting this earlier.
You can still donate, volunteer and get involved with REDU though and there is information on how to do so at the REDU website.
The above video was put together by Hunter Gatherer who generously donated some heart felt time toward the issue and has been working hard to champion the cause. Changethethought hopes to find a way to become more involved in the future. My sincerest apologies to Yosi and the gang for not getting this post up sooner.

San Francisco based Photographer Aimee Brodeur has what could be described as a ‘free-spirited’ sense about her imagery. It’s a sun-dappled surreal affair that makes you want to push away the laptop and head out to take in some scenery. The imagery feels very personal as if an intimate moment was just snapped just in the nick of time.

It’s been a week and a half now but Bordo Bello went down really well this year. There was a big attendance and there were some really great boards in the show. It was great to see that some of the boards were going for some relatively high prices as well and it was great knowing that money was going to charity. We submitted 3 boards that worked as a tryptic. You can see them above. They were really nothing more than a simple homage to one of our favorite movies of all time (and one of the best movies of all time in our opinion). You can view images of all of the boards here and also take a peak at some pictures from the event here.

Artist Melissa Cooke answers the question as to just how detailed can you actually get with graphite? She does so with large stunning portraits that are spectacular in the attention paid to detail and the lifelike photographic resemblance of the sitter. There is no hiding the genuine talent required to produce such amazing images directly from mind to hand.

Allentown, Pennsylvania based oil painter Angela Fraleigh paints people moving, filtering and breaking through dark and light shattered space. The paintings feel very personal and almost intrusive in a way that as a viewer you feel as though you are peaking in on an awkward moment. The paintings often have long titles that suggest spiritual introspection.

Swiss-born artist Paolo Fumagalli is not afraid to get your mental gears spinning and even tweak your inner fears. His art mixes natural forms in collision with modern day pop culture values of violence and consumption. It makes for a disturbing cocktail that leaves a lasting and sometimes disturbing impression on the psyche. It’s even more ironic when you consider he resides in the gorgeous city of Florence, Italy. What a nice place to dwell on the ills and decay of modern society.
