There is some pretty fun and inspirational visuals collected within the visual diary of Salva López. It’s only 3 pages deep so far but shows a lot of promise.

Birks and Birks

An old friend of mine has recently started a letterpress printing company here in Denver called Birks and Birks. They are already producing some attractive work. I first took notice over this summer when they completed a print for my amazingly talented friend Mike Scarano’s entry into Artcrank (which you can see above). I can personally endorse B&B’s services having worked with them in the past. I know they are committed to the finer details of the letterpress craft. I am hoping to complete a project with them in the near future.

Hugo and Marie Boutique

Hugo (Mario Hugo) and Marie have launched a new online boutique featuring goods created by some of the talented people currently under their umbrella. They have some really beautiful items already in the store. Some of them are quite pricey, but if you want to own and wear a real piece of art, you have to pony up. However, they are carrying some inspiring printed goods such as It’s Nice That Issue No. 2 and Newwork Magazine Issue No.3 for very reasonable prices.

If I could hazard a guess, this is only a preview of what is to come. I would expect they will be continually stocking with more and beautiful new things from their amazing cache of talent.

C.J. Pyle

Comments Off on C.J. PyleArt

cjpyle.jpg

Artist C.J. Pyle has created some unusual surrealist portraits drawn on old LP record sleeves with ink, colored pencils and graphite. The end result of his work is soft and billowy in some areas and highly textural in others, which no doubt would require some meticulous detail. You can view his work at the Hammer Gallery website.

I am really a fan of the surrealist landscape paintings of Rick Leong. You can see more in his Flickr-folio. There is something almost akin to old Japanese prints happening within some of the imagery. I would love to see his work in person.

Brooklyn-based (yes Brooklyn again) artist Erika Somogyi has managed to combine a sense of human spiritualism with references to nature. The end result of which are some stunning paintings with a bold use of color.

Tanya Johnston

tanyajohnston.jpg

Tanya Johnston has created her own unique brand of geometric-inspired psuedo-science surrealism. There is a contemplative quiet about her imagery too that is very attractive. She falls under one of those hard-to-define categories of part art, part graphic design and part digital illustration.
