Been a long long long time since I dropped in on the Rotterdam-based design agency Toko and boy am I glad I just did. They have a wealth of new project work on display since my last visit and every bit of it is inspiring to say the least.

Talented designer, illustrator and animator Gareth O’Brian has updated with a few new and delicious projects. He’s an expert at curating his portfolio.
Design studio Stranger and Stranger worked with winemaker Truett Hurst and Safeway to enhance the packaging of wine bottlees for special occasions. I’ve been scouring the internet for wine and liquor packaging ideas and found these particularly inspirational.
Rotterdam based designer and illustrator Erwin Kho AKA Zerbamine takes a unique approach to his work with a quirky and colorful dimensional perspective. You can see more in his Behance portfolio.
There’s some fun stuff in the portfolio of designer and illustrator Benjamin Escobar who works for the lifestyle brand The Hundreds. His sharp sense of humor is on full display.
Metropolismoloch is the work of an Italian designer named Lorenzo. He has a thing for recreating movie titles in that throwback style that seems lost on a passed era of cinema. It’s a super fun concept and provides strong inspiration for typography.
Matt Chase is a designer & illustrator living and working in Washington, DC. He seems to have a bit of a penchant for the past as his work skews a touch retro but in a good way.
Yes Alex Trochut is still out there cranking things out. He’s put some new work up on his site since I last checked in probably over a year ago now. He still has an amazing portfolio to check out and the quality remains high. Hopefully he’s still doing well in Barcelona. I know things have been rough economically in Spain this past year.
This is a fun little self-initiated project by Me & You Studio. Hopefully it will serve as a friendly reminder to get out there and create. Don’t wait for a project. Just do it. If you create, it will come.
Adrián Romero is a Spanish graphic designer and illustrator with some wild, colorful and pop-infused visuals in his portfolio. His work is very illustrated but composed with the sensitivity of a designer. It’s a tasty bag of eye candy.
Ruslan Khasanov is an interesting young designer who tailors and calls upon a rounded set of skills to accomplish each project. The notable thing is that those skills are employed very deliberately to bring about a unique solution which I would imagine makes him popular with his clients.
I and I am sure a lot of you too have kept track on the work of I am Always Hungry for a while now and they finally updated after a very very long time and it’s a meaty update to be sure. There is lots of good work in their portfolio and it looks like they haven’t had to go too hungry lately with the amount of projects they have been working on.
I am not entirely sure who this person is but they sent me an email about their experimental work on the Tumblr blog under the name Ruminsessions. Apparently this is personal and experimental work but there is some tasty eye candy ready to be gobbled up.
There is some unusual and highly detailed illustrated typography in the portfolio of Jing Zhang. It’s expertly rendered and did I mention meticulously detailed? Oh yeah I did. Well it’s worth saying it again.
Pablo Abad has kind of cornered the market in the sacred geometry, mystic low brow hipster design aesthetic category but has done it in a way that still makes it seem totally original and personal. I think he’s been working in this style for a while now but it has definitely been copied by numerous other designers. He has been updating his portfolio lately and it’s great work all the same.
I am a devotee of Herb Lubalin and have lauded over his work most of my career. He was a rarity in graphic design as someone who was capable of bringing something ‘illustrative’ to his work and typography that was equally graphic. It was a perfect marriage of human touch and technical precision that still rivals anything being created in the world of graphic design today. His work was also somehow simultaneously 60’s but completely timeless in style.
Unit Editions is releasing a heavily researched and beautiful looking book that you can pre-order all about the life and work of the inspirational figure that was Herb Lubalin. It’s a must have for anyone in the field.
Rutger Paulusse currently works as a designer and illustrator at Vault 49. As you would expect if you are familiar with the studio’s work, Paulusse displays some exceptional illustrated typography skills throughout his portfolio.
Andrew Archer straddles the line between comic art and fine art but pulls it all off with a little digital panache. He’s posted several new works since I last dropped in on his portfolio and some of his more recent works are really stunning.
