It’s been a long time since we have heard from our talented friends at MK12 but they have recently released their summer reel. It’s packed full of examples of their unique and always-inspiring talents. You can also view more of their work at their Website. They certainly have not lost their edge.
Designer and motionographer Dimo Trifonov emailed us the ‘he exists and this is my portfolio’. Hmm. Well he does indeed exist, has done some interesting work and here is indeed his portfolio. Thanks for the email Dimo.
Holland based Motion Graphics agency Addikt recently completed the visual identity of this year’s DesignYatra, one of the biggest festivals on graphic design worldwide that takes place in September, Mumbai, India. The Transcendent City is a short film produced for a final year Masters in Architecture by Richard Hardy. Here is a bit of insight from Hardy on the film: “The concept of a future sustainable city is developed for a society that is currently not responding effectively to environmental dangers. “Transcendence” in this case referring to a point when artificial intelligence has reached or surpassed that of the human.”
You can see a few ‘making of’ bits in Hardy’s Flicker pages.
Fuel TV has added some exceptional new promo spots to their already fantastic reel for their artist ident series. Justin Harder created life-size ‘pixelated’ motorcycle racers for his spot. You can actually see pictures of the process at his Flickr account. It must have taken a crazy amount of time and money to produce. There are also 2 new spots from Brand New School that look amazing and feature some impressive 3D work. You can see the Brand New School spots here and here. It’s refreshing to see a brand both inspiring and allowing so much raw creativity.
Robert Hodgin AKA Flight 404 was tasked by Wired to create an opening animation for the iPad version of their magazine. The issue number was 18:08 and the number served as the crux of the piece. You can see the final version here but I am actually more a fan of the earlier version which can be seen above. You can’t go wrong with Hodgin’s amazing work. The music was provided by Tim Stutt. You can read more about the process involved in the creation of the animations at Hodgin’s website.
I find it rather ironic that if you really want to see and appreciate the quality and color of these animations, you have to watch them on Vimeo, which in my opinion from a quality standpoint is heads above YouTube but Vimeo isn’t supported by iPad or iPhone.
London based motion and animation firm Treat Studios produced around 20 minutes of visuals for Natasha Khan (Bat for Lashes) in early 2010 and cut it down to this wonderful little edit.
Eric Hu is a very young designer with a degree from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. He has also attended the Art Center College of Design. He’s recently done some work at Buck and was also awarded Gold from Graphis New Talent in 2010. Considering he’s just getting started, I would keep an eye on him.
Whoah, Gluko and Lennon might bring on an acid flashback for the delicate-minded but it is beautifully animated and just kind of super strange awesome. I’d imagine the kids would love it.
A Day in Paris is a short film by Benoît MILLOT that composites some amazing 3D over live action. It’s a fun little film and the amount of work required to create such a seamless effect on behalf of Millot must have been intensely draining. You have to admire his commitment to craft.
Eloy Krioka and Blas Lamagni are from Sudamérica, Argentina and have recently updated their studio site and portfolio at Place. It’s bright, slick, colorful and fun work.
“35mm« is a shortfilm about cinema itself. We picked 35 of our favorite movies and tried to simplifly them as far as possible. The outcome is a 2 minute journey through the history of film.”
This is way awesome for a little fun group project. Art for art’s sake is where it’s at.
Concept / Layout: Sarah Biermann, Torsten Strer, Felix Meyer, Pascal Monaco
Animation: Felix Meyer, Pascal Monaco

There is a lot of things happening in this artistic short 3D film including voice over talent from Whoopi Goldberg. It’s a very aspirational piece of art that aims toward a very cosmic philosophical core. It’s exciting to see some big talent interested in something like this. I recommend going fullscreen on this one to experience it at it’s fullest expression.
Barcelona based motion and interactive studio Dvein has updated with some excellent idents for SyFy along with a host of other new and exceptional projects.
Cours Toujours is a short film made just for fun by Elise Garcette and Olivier Barré, with music by Pilöt. The short was produced by La Station Animation. Pretty cool project to file under ‘just for fun’.
