Comments Off on Some Type of Wonderful 2010Typography
Luke from Lifelounge contacted me to let me know that he has put together an exciting group of creatives for next year’s installment of Some Type of Wonderful. As opposed to my explanation, here is the explanation of the initiative from the source:
“Some Type of Wonderful is a global typographic initiative conceived by Lifelounge in 2008 to showcase the best of the world’s creative talent across the realms of art, design and illustration. Each year 12 artists are selected for their unique approach to the craft and are given an individual typographic design brief based around a month of the year. The artist is asked to interpret the brief in a way that typographically represents what that month specifically means to them. How abstract or literal the interpretation is completely up to them.
Each piece is made available as a series of museum grade limited edition Giclée prints on high quality cotton rag art paper and is accompanied by a signed and editioned STW Certificate of Authenticity by the artist. The pieces are made available through a series of exhibitions this October and online at lifelounge.com.
All of the responses are then compiled and laid out in a beautifully designed and limited edition wall calendar for art, design and typography enthusiasts to enjoy for the following year. These will also be made available through lifelounge.com.”
Graphic Artist, Richard Sarson has updated his website with a full cache of very minimal work. There is some really nice typography happening throughout his updated portfolio.
Roland Tiangco’s dirt poster is blazing a trail across the creative blogosphere and for good reason. Simply put, it’s a brilliant piece of print work that can be appreciated by both design and conceptual advertising minds alike. Kudos Mr. Tiangco.
C2F is designers Cybu Richli & Fabienne Burri who are based in beautiful Luzern, Switzerland. They have some unique and colorful typographic work in their collective portfolio.
Tom Waits classic ‘Eggs and Sausage’ is brought to life through typography by Jackie Lay. The piece was awarded a Certificate of Typographic Excellence by the Type Directors Club.
We Are Not You has updated their portfolio. Work from the prior version of their portfolio has circulated around the design blogosphere quite a bit and they have some equally blog worthy work within their latest update. There are some nice type faces in the typography section of their website. Be sure to check them out.

This set of archived music posters by Günther Kieser is really impressive. The illustrations, photography and custom letterforms are all just beautiful. It’s all been done before folks.

Ashkahn Shahparnia has updated yet again with a few more works and has also stocked some new items in his shop. One of those items includes a t-shirt that would definitely provoke and stimulate some conversation.
Comments Off on Seb Lester – Electrik SheepTypography
Both Seb Lester and Electrik Sheep have gotten in touch with me about Lester’s upcoming show at the Electrik Sheep gallery. As opposed to me butchering the description from there, you can see a video of the color-changing ink used for one of the posters above and get all the details about Lester and the show below.
“Electrik Sheep Gallery Presents… Seb Lester
Electrik Sheep is proud to be hosting Seb Lester’s first solo show of exclusive prints and originals.
The Electrik Sheep Gallery, Newcastle will be showing a full body of work from Seb Lester this August including a number of new limited edition prints and originals exclusive to Electrik Sheep. These will complement a selection of his well known back catalogue of work which documents his recent foray into the world of art.
Seb is “passionate about letterforms” which form the basis for his pieces. He brings letters to life with his innovative approach and bold sense of humour. Often drawing on racy subject matter and a dazzling array of lettering styles he manages to produce thoroughly modern work that would look as good on the wall of a New York loft apartment as it would in an English country house.
Seb was trained at the renowned Central Saint Martins School of art and is internationally known for his typeface designs and illustrations which have been used by many of the world’s biggest companies and publications including Intel, The New York Times, The Sunday Times, Penguin, Faber & Faber and GQ Magazine.
Following on from other exclusive solo shows from Faile, Eelus, Eine to name a few the show will open on August 6th at 6pm with one of Electrik Sheep’s infamous street parties and an after party at the Forth Hotel. All pieces will also be released online at the same time for those of you unable to make the trip.”

Hiekkagraphics has released a new display typeface called Pale that you can find here and see in action here. The letter ‘Q’ is always one of the rocks that the typeface ship is broken upon and for what it’s worth, it’s probably my favorite character within Pale.
Ryan Brinkerhoff has some really nice prints up for sale at Bandito Design Co. The print above kind of made my entire typographical day and you can buy it at Etsy for only $20 bucks.
Hugo Hoppmann has some really simple but considered work in his portfolio. There is some nice use of typography going on throughout his body of work and it’s pretty impressive considering his tender age of 21 years.
