Linsey Levendall and Daniel Orme make up Bison, a creative studio based in Cape Town, SouthAfrica. They have been our radar for a while now but have kept updating their portfolio with new and truly beautiful projects that straddle the line between art and design.
I can’t seem to find an ‘about’ page at the site of designer/illustrator Lukas Brezak but what I did find was a large body of work that runs from extremely illustrative to somewhat graphic. His talent is not under dispute and his work is a lot of fun to look at.
“Alex Fischer composes his figures and landscapes by assembling a variety of visual and conceptual sources. Keeping in mind that ideas of the future are inevitably the fastest to change, Fischer maintains that human nature is a fallible and susceptible state.”
Fischer’s collages (if that is how they can actually be described) are strangely surreal and extremely painterly. They are sometimes eerie and kinetic as if they are capturing movement. His work does recall some influence from Francis Bacon but it’s as if Chagall and Bacon shared a nightmare that transformed into a surrealist dream.
Photographer Hannes Caspar captures beautifully simple images that preserve the integrity of the sitter while offering a window into the mystery of the individual. He is primarily driven by the human form and the effect of humankind on the world. Truly gorgeous work.
Los Angeles based illustrator and designer Julia Sonmi Heglund has been on our radar for a long time. It’s been a while since we last checked in on her site and she has kept busy and updated lately with some new and fun illustration work that is worth looking into.
The infamous graffiti-inspired design crew 123 Klan have updated with a new website with several new projects including work for clients like dAidas, Nike, Stussy, Vans, Carhartt and Johnny Cupcakes. They’ve kept busy over the years and have really boiled their style down to what works.
“I am a 32 year old photographer and designer, born and raised in Blissfield, a small farm town in southeastern Michigan. After graduating from the University of Michigan with a BFA in Photography and a BA in Graphic Design, I began working as a designer and art director, first in Chicago, then San Francisco, where I started my own studio and began working on several long term projects. Recently relocated back to Michigan, I am doing what little I can to help it recover its former glory.”
You can view Peter Baker’s serene, sometimes quietly disturbing and contemplative imagery at both his Flickrfolio and at his personal website.
It’s been a long time since I wrote about the work of graphic illustrator Philip Tseng who calls himself Minicubby. He has since posted some new and fun projects including the alphabet series featured above.
Kim Dulaney relaunches with some seriously beautiful work for both motion boards and print. It’s highly artistic, a little bit strange and very detailed work.
Changethethought will be exhibiting the above piece this Friday, December 3rd at the Illiterate Gallery for a show entitled ‘Mile High on the Map”. We printed 5 Giclée’s and one is framed. The framed piece will sell for $150 while the unframed will be available for $100 each. All prints are signed and numbered. We are excited to be a part of the show and hope to be exhibiting more work in the upcoming year at Illiterate. You can see a detailed image of our print at our Flickr-folio. Our piece is a bit of a puff surrealist pop art bit about two of our favorite quintessentially weird iconic Denver public art sculptures. You can also see the first pass of the graphite drawing used as the foundation for the piece before it was finished digitally.
The show starts at 6pm this Friday and runs until 11pm. Be there or be square.

Eric Bonhomme attended the Ringling college of and design. I am a fan of his gritty accessible style. His images are kinetic and full of life even though they employ simple color combinations.
AOL Artists is an avenue for exploring the work of artists, illustrators and designers whose work is ‘helping shape art and design today’. It seems a little vague but there are some really great people represented on the site and there is a lot of inspiring content to explore. The above piece is by the always-inspiring and wonderfully weird La Boca.
Seth Armstrong is a an extremely talented painter whose work always tells a story. His work actually immediately reminded me a little of the strange paintings that appear in Wes Anderson’s film ‘The Royal Tenenbaums’ and I like that very much.
Photographer Steven Brahms ironic images belie a cynicism about modern life. He embraces the ridiculous but finds a unique humor in the seriousness through which people approach life in the modern world. If you are curious about his process there are some wonderful answers available in an interview he did with Future Shipwreck.
Painter Vincent Hui is not stranger to symbolism and metaphor as his work gushes with it in every stroke. He’s an accomplished craftsman with the brush with a genuine eye for composition.
POGO is at it again only this time instead of visual trickery Snow White-style it’s audio instead. It’s still a brilliant little piece of music and will only definitely peak interest in the new mixup mashup internet audio-visual art landscape that we have only just begun spiraling into.
Yosuke Ueno: “I always start new work without any detailed designs. My hope is for a piece to compleate itself beyond my imagination. I sometimes say that artists are parallel to scientists. Scientists have no way of knowing the result of an experiment beforehand. The same can be said about creating art.”
