London based studio Shotopop have added a few new bits and pieces since I last dropped in. I not only like what they are doing, I like how they are doing it. They take a unique approach to every project and aren’t afraid to go out on a limb.

Jessica Hische has assembled a nice little chart to help you answer the age old question ‘Should I Work For Free?‘ Most of the time, I would say no but there are exceptions to every rule and good causes that can always use and extra hand.

Wow, designer/typographer Dan Cassaro isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty and apply the hand skills to create some of his highly-likable type configurations. He’s got his thing down and it’s looking slick.

German designer and illustrator Christoph Ruprecht is making some extremely strange things and they seem to be spilling out of him at high velocity. The long scrolls in his Behance-folio yield an onslaught of mind melting color, psychedelic landscapes and trippy typography.

The long-standing pillar of design, branding and advertising perfection that is Pentagram have updated with a new website which is neither a day late nor a dollar short of precisely what an online portfolio in our common year of 2011 should be. What I mean to punctuate is that here we have no frills and all good work. It’s easy to sort through and puts the raw creative chops squarely on the slab for you to cook up in your now inspired brain as to how you and your agency or studio could ascertain the level of awe that Pentagram has achieved and will be remembered for. The word ‘icon’ can be applied in this rare situation since they have carved out a corner in a fleeting and nearly impossible to define industry. Many will clamor but few will reach so eloquently over such a span of time.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers or IEEE recently asked designer illustrator extraordinaire Frank Chimero to illustrate a feature about the top 11 technologies of the past decade. One of his top choices was the smart phone as it stands alone in how it has revolutionized how we consume information on a totally mobile platform. He followed up his choices with some simple, eloquent, accessible and colorful illustrations. Frank never disappoints. He’s a thinking man’s designer.

Maddison Graphic is a small design studio formed by brothers Edward and Alfie Maddison based in Ely, Cambridgeshire. They have recently updated with some new work to their portfolio including this absolutely lovely little poster they printed and mailed to us. We were thrilled as it is clearly a striking and colorful piece of design. Now we just have to find a proper frame since we don’t use the isometric paper system here across the pond. Thank you so much for the poster guys. We love it.

My friend Celeste Prevost uprooted a while back and moved to San Francisco. It was a sad loss for the Denver creative community although she and her hubby occasionally pop back into the scene here in Denver to take part in local design and art shows. Celeste was one of the more talented young designers I had ran into in Denver until she took off on a cross-country try-a-city journey. She was one of my very first MySpace friends back when we still actually used MySpace. She has kept herself busy and held fast to a simple aesthetic building a strikingly simple, colorful and cleanly designed body of work. It appears there have been a few updates as of late and it’s worth dropping in on her site to see what she’s been up to.
