Photographer Jens Ingvarsson’s images have been popping up all over the creative blogosphere in the last few days/weeks. He keeps a blog where you can check out his most current exploits but he is also represented by Exodus Media Productions where you can check out more of his work. He is a talented image maker and at first it is impossible not to pull the Terry Richardson comparison card but Ingvarsson has several tricks up his sleeve and that is only one of them.

Onetime Changethethought Editor Luke Williams has stayed busy since moving to Chicago after graduating from the Maryland Institute College of Art. He has recently been picking up the camera with more frequency to capture some interesting image studies including the one above. I had no idea how creepy tongues could be.

Russian born Yulia Gorodinski is an Israel based photographer who earned an MA in English Literature from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She is also an accomplished image maker whose focus of study just so happens to be herself. Yulia takes self portrait photographs that are expertly composed and made all the more enticing by the fact that she is also incredibly attractive. It’s definitely a unique way to break into the fashion photography industry as both photographer and model in one package.

Cellophane Soul

“Hello there, I’m Ashley. This is the part where I try to explain myself, but none of it really applies in real life. This should sum it up – I’m an “indie-rock-loving, thrift-store-prowling, home-made-T-shirt-wearing, blue-hair-dying misfit girl who thinks life is a 60s movie” -Whip It (Shauna Cross).

I have a thing for over-exposure. I love the city Austin.”

Chino Hills, California based photographer Philip Kupferschmidt has a cinematic eye for capturing momentary slices of quiet that play like scenes from a larger story. I absolutely love the photo above but I don’t think he tipped that cat after using the restroom and perhaps that explains the expression.

Photographer Alexandra Valenti captures a feeling from a bygone era with washed out images, naked babies, hippy garb and rainbow tints that take you back to an era about music, love and drugs. Ahh the good old days. It’s not too late to bring them back no?

Eyjafjallajokull

eyjafjallajokull.jpg

The Boston.com has a series of photographs detailing the events surrounding the eruption of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland. Another plume of ash erupted over the weekend that may again stifle air travel over Europe this week. I have enjoyed how the American media just refers to the news as ‘that volcano in Iceland’ as opposed to trying to pronounce the actual name ‘Eyjafjallajokull’.

Thom Kerr: Updates

thomkerrupdates.jpg

Australian fashion photographer Thom Kerr has updated with what I guess could be described as a different kind of website. His unique brand of humor and levity towards his chosen profession comes shining through in the setup of his new site. Kerr initially graduated with a degree in film working in production design and wardrobe before finally stepping behind the lens to find his true calling.

Montreal based graphic design student Sofia Ajram’s fashion-inspired photography could in many instances be described as cosmically psychedelic. She began her career as a photographer when she was hired by Truth Explosion Magazine in 2007 as a concert photographer. Since then her work has graced publications such as Poetic Terrorism, Carpaccio Magazine, C-O-M-A Magazine, Vellum Online, EnRoute Magazine, Mossless Magazine, and Antler Magazine.

A New Kind of Beauty

mrtoledanobeauty.jpg

“I’m interested in what we define as beauty, when we choose to create it ourselves.

Beauty has always been a currency, and now that we finally have the technological means to mint our own, what choices do we make?

Is beauty informed by contemporary culture? By history? Or is it defined by the surgeon’s hand? Can we identify physical trends that vary from decade to decade, or is beauty timeless?

When we re-make ourselves, are we revealing our true character, or are we stripping away our very identity?

Perhaps we are creating a new kind of beauty. An amalgam of surgery, art, and popular culture? And if so, are the results the vanguard of human induced evolution?”

Above is photographer Phillip Toledano’s explanation for the fascinating yet disturbing photo series entitled ‘A New Kind of Beauty‘.

Photographer Brad Elterman is one of those people you could say has ‘been there and done that’. After picking up his first camera at 16 his first photo of Bob Dylan performing onstage was publish in 1974. That you might say lead to a life of debauchery in the seventies when leaving school at the age of 19 he hit the road traveling with acts like Leif Garret, Boney M, The Eagles and Rod Stewart just to name a few. He covered the rock scene in Hollywood capturing intimate images of some of music’s most iconic stars. He has contributed those images to publications such as US, Creem, Circus, Rolling Stone, People, Hit Parader, Phonograph Record Magazine, Rock Magazine, Rock Scene, New York Post, National Enquirer, The StarJAPAN, Music Life, Rock ShowEUROPE, Muzeik Express, Photo Foto, Pop, Pop Rocky, Bravo, Das Freizeit, Magazun, Popcorn, Poster Magazine, Oh Boy, Fabulous 208, Jackie, Sounds, New Musical Express, Melody Maker. Charles Guthrie

Photographer Charles Guthrie sent his work in this week and I was impressed by his candid and intriguing images. As opposed to butchering his biography in my own clumsy words, I will let him speak for himself:

“Charles Guthrie was born in Winter Park, Fl. He was raised and went to school in Orlando, Fl and New York City, however now he lives in Richmond, VA. Working mostly with photography and graphic design; armed with his endless fascination of youth culture, he creates a dark and challenging world with an ultimately optimistic outlook. He captivates viewers with his personal influence from skateboarding, music, traveling, ill logic, and the paranormal takes on society. Many small published works, zines, and widely traveled websites reflect the dedication and vision he sets out to create through his work. Currently, he spends his time furthering his academic knowledge and collaborating on small independent projects, in addition to pushing creative limits.”
