I gotta get me one of these.
Are you low on your Damien Hirst merch? Well hey, guess what? He has an online store now featuring not only some of his own goodies but work from other artists as well. He is a hotly contested artist to be sure but the guy is smart. Houses in multiple countries, yachts and millions of dollars. He know something that most of us don’t.
Sebastian Brajkovic is an unusual artist who has managed to blur the lines between graphics, sculpture and furniture creating an unusual and exciting artform that is all his own. I am sure you have seen the above image out there floating in the blogosphere but if you have yet to look at his work it is well worth a gander.
Erik Natzke is an interactive artist who works to blur the lines between art and technology with a Flickr-folio bursting with colorful abstract compositions.
Seriously amazing, absolutely amazing paintings from Denver-based Lucong. A true young master. I can’t say enough about the enormity of the talent here. Really stunning and the fact that he lives in Denver is fantastic. Its always great to discover truly inspiring talent right in your own backyard.
Ryan Riss has updated with a lot of new work. He used to live here in Denver before heading out to L.A. I went to one of his shows here last summer and got to speak with him briefly. He’s a pretty unusual guy and that personality definitely shines through in his work.
Supertouch has a little response to the infamous article questioning the validity of the work of now unquestionably famous artist Shepard Fairey (Obey Giant). The original article, written by artist Mark Vallen makes accusations of plagiarism and states several examples. Supertouch claims the appropriation of other imagery has been an artform/movement in and of itself for a long time now.
Read up at Supertouch and see how you feel about the issue. With the internet making so much imagery so readily available now this is not something that is going to go away anytime soon and will most definitely continue to be a hot topic within our profession. I myself appropriate imagery into a lot of my work.
So leave a comment and spark up some debate. Let me and the other readers out there know what you think about this. I think it really gets some people ruffled and I also think there may be a generational divide shaping up here because I definitely see a lot of younger designers and artists appropriating imagery more and more.
Wow, just blown away by the fantastic drawings of Nashville-based artist Chris Scarborough. Highly imaginative and just technically beautiful. Really inspiring work.
ROJO Associate Director Fupete has a new website up with new works.
I know I have written about I Am Mint Condition before but damn it all if I am just not continually mind blown by the silver artistic brain bullets fired from the psyche of Travis Stearns. They aim straight for my art heart and fill it with inspired confusion. I just flat out love his collage work. It makes me want to crack open a can of creative whoop ass and work it out.
Artist Dan Funderburgh has updated with a brand new website featuring some newer work. Dan is really talented and is really owning his own unique brand of art. He just keeps getting better and better at what he is doing as well.
Really beautiful paintings from artist Regino Gonzales. Seriously amazing work, the detail is incredible and each composition is unique and just flat out gorgeous.
I am really digging the acrylic stylings of painter Leah Tinari. I love her use of color and the real/surreal abstraction of her subjects.
Carly Elizabeth Schmitt has created some really cool paintings and drawings that she has on display through her Flickr account. I stumbled upon them somehow today and got stuck on her work right away.
There is some really cool Beastie Boys inspired artwork here.
The Unconventional Collage Show exhibiting the works of Alejandro Chavetta will be running from 1/16/09-3/1/09. Be there or be square. Great work.
