Kim Manfredi

Painter Kim Manfredi’s work sometimes blurs the line between abstract expressionism and subject based painting by giving abstract forms a dimensionality that makes them appear almost as if they are physical objects.

Alex Fischer

Comments Off on Alex FischerArt

alexfischer.jpg

Alex Fischer composes his figures and landscapes by assembling a variety of visual and conceptual sources. Keeping in mind that ideas of the future are inevitably the fastest to change, Fischer maintains that human nature is a fallible and susceptible state.”

Fischer’s collages (if that is how they can actually be described) are strangely surreal and extremely painterly. They are sometimes eerie and kinetic as if they are capturing movement. His work does recall some influence from Francis Bacon but it’s as if Chagall and Bacon shared a nightmare that transformed into a surrealist dream.

Seth Armstrong is a an extremely talented painter whose work always tells a story. His work actually immediately reminded me a little of the strange paintings that appear in Wes Anderson’s film ‘The Royal Tenenbaums’ and I like that very much.

Teodoru is an extremely creative individual cranking out all kinds of interesting art, my favorite of which has to be his wonderfully bizarre characters that look like they are being developed in 3D.

Painter Vincent Hui is not stranger to symbolism and metaphor as his work gushes with it in every stroke. He’s an accomplished craftsman with the brush with a genuine eye for composition.

Wishery (Disney Remix)

POGO is at it again only this time instead of visual trickery Snow White-style it’s audio instead. It’s still a brilliant little piece of music and will only definitely peak interest in the new mixup mashup internet audio-visual art landscape that we have only just begun spiraling into.

Yosuke Ueno: “I always start new work without any detailed designs.  My hope is for a piece to compleate itself beyond my imagination.  I sometimes say that artists are parallel to scientists.  Scientists have no way of knowing the result of an experiment beforehand.  The same can be said about creating art.”

Well said.

Just when you think you have seen about all you could bear from the collage trend you stumble upon work from someone like Brazilian artist Lucas Simões and are once again ensnared.

Gustavo Peña’s bio is still ‘in progress’ so there isn’t really any information about him to speak of other than is strangely surreal paintings featuring young men running around in Batman maks with Supersoakers. That should be enough to get you interested though.

Cayetano Ferrer

Comments Off on Cayetano FerrerArt

cayetanoferrer.jpg

Cayetano Ferrer uses existing forms in order to engage in a dialog about the constant flux of the built, contemporary environment. Using inkjet prints on existing objects/architecture that reveal what these objects ultimately obscure, Ferrer exposes the relationship between the built and the rebuilt, surface and hidden, as well the delicate matter of history and memory as the present paves over the recent past in a bid to enrich economies. Ferrer’s work is a gentle push/pull between permanence and obsolescence, inviting consideration of evolution, mutation and modification in our relationship to our immediate environment.” – ThreeWalls Staff

Fascinating project.

Will Barras: Updates

Comments Off on Will Barras: UpdatesArt

willbarras.jpg

Artist Will Barras has recently updated his site with some new and spectacular paintings. There is something extremely dark dynamic about his surreal paintings. The imagery appears to be swirling in a subconscious vortex and many of his works appear as though they might just move right off the canvas. Beautiful work.

Alex Gross

Comments Off on Alex GrossArt

alexgross.jpg

Oil painter Alex Gross mish-mashes references to pop consumerism in surrealistic and sometimes apocalyptic portraits that could double as cynical ads. It’s imagery that is tailer made for Adbusters. Some of the most interesting paintings mix in current references to popular fashion and the constant distraction of cellular culture. He’s an artist with a point of view and the best guess is that when he looks around at where society currently stands, he probably isn’t particularly fond of what he’s seeing.

Redu: Re:Form School Exhibition

Comments Off on Redu: Re:Form School ExhibitionArt

The Re:form School Exhibition took place this weekend in NY and it sounds as though it was a success. I have to apologize for not posting about this a long long time ago. It was a royal screw up for which I feel a little ashamed. We have just been so slammed here at the studio trying to get on top of running our new venture that all things blog and exhibition have been pushed into the background a little.

All excuses aside, this was an important show that managed to pull together some really amazing artists around the cause of education reform. It’s an issue that needs some serious support from the younger generations right now. The show was put together by REDU, a coalition of creatives and educators working toward  rethinking, reforming and rebuilding US education.

The actual exhibition happened over the weekend between the hours of 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM at 233 Mott Street, New York City, NY 10012. As far as I know the show is now closed, which is why I feel like a real ass for not posting this earlier.

You can still donate, volunteer and get involved with REDU though and there is information on how to do so at the REDU website.

The above video was put together by Hunter Gatherer who generously donated some heart felt time toward the issue and has been working hard to champion the cause. Changethethought hopes to find a way to become more involved in the future. My sincerest apologies to Yosi and the gang for not getting this post up sooner.

Bordo Bello – Post Event

Comments Off on Bordo Bello – Post EventArt

all3boards_clipped.jpg

It’s been a week and a half now but Bordo Bello went down really well this year. There was a big attendance and there were some really great boards in the show. It was great to see that some of the boards were going for some relatively high prices as well and it was great knowing that money was going to charity. We submitted 3 boards that worked as a tryptic. You can see them above. They were really nothing more than a simple homage to one of our favorite movies of all time (and one of the best movies of all time in our opinion). You can view images of all of the boards here and also take a peak at some pictures from the event here.

Artist Melissa Cooke answers the question as to just how detailed can you actually get with graphite? She does so with large stunning portraits that are spectacular in the attention paid to detail and the lifelike photographic resemblance of the sitter. There is no hiding the genuine talent required to produce such amazing images directly from mind to hand.
