Brooklyn-based illustrator/designer Salvatore Dell’Aquila has updated with some new work. I am particularly enjoying his motion boards created for the likes of Brand New School and Transistor Studios.

Spanish designer Fernando Suárez Carballo has a real love for graphic design and has consequently gathered some of his favorite examples from various agencies and designers in his Flickr pages. It’s a large archive and it’s brimming over with inspiration.
Twstedlogic is the graphic design work of Ben Lee who was born in Brighton and currently resides in London. “He has worked with numerous clients including BBC, Nickelodeon, IHF, Wells&more, Pret and The Newburgh Quarter. Ben is a founding member of KeepItVisual a Vj&motion project, and is a Music producer under the alias TheOuterMostRegion and Depth.”
21-19 has updated with a new website and several new projects in their portfolio including a strong rebrand package for Comedy Channel. They score high marks across the board for both motion and static design (that was a rare sports reference the likes of which you will probably seldom here on this blog).
Oslo-based graphic design studio Your Friends has updated with a new website and several new projects in their immaculate portfolio.
Philly-based and PA native (and UO Inc. employee [who’s happy to pick up a freelance gig or two (wink, wink)]), Elysse Ricci does the kind of ‘stupid-simple’ design that I occasionally hear people bitch about. They say things like, ‘man, that helvetica design stuff is bullshit’. But you know the funny thing is, the stupid-simple work just comes off so clean and looking at it and liking it makes you feel smart.
It’s a lot like cooking, you can analyze it and over season, but it really boils down to fundamentals. It’s about color, font selection, positioning, form and a little bit of intuition with a sprinkle of talent. Cool heads prevail in design/advertising and you always have to be prepared to take off the apron and go burn off some steam (just like a chef). Yes, I am over simplifying but you get the point. I have worked in advertising now for a while which gave me an enormous appreciation for the power of concept, but I now spend way way way too much time over analyzing some of my own design work. I am beginning to realize that their is a kind of beauty in people enjoying a nice steak with a side of fried potatoes. You just know it will taste good and you feel great eating it. Is that so bad? Everything in moderation.
I gobbled up Ricci’s work, and I think it looks delicious. I hope I can produce something as delectable. Is going minimal trendy or is it a staple? I think it might just be a staple. It won’t go away and it always pleases.
There is some tasty digital photo illustration work in the Behance portfolio of Portland-based designer/illustration Craig Sprecher. I had a pair of Spiz’ikes but I sold them on eBay when I needed some quick cash (damn).
Willow Design wrote in from a ‘rainy Belfast’ to let us know they have updated their portfolio with some new project work for the new year. We are enjoying it from a sunny (but soon to be snowy) Denver.
It wasn’t long ago that I wrote about the exploits of designer/illustrator Philippe Intraligi but it appears his site has recently been updated and there is all manner of colorful eyecandy in his new portfolio to sink your lashes into. You can also peep more at his Behance-folio.
Antonio Carusone has relaunched a new version of his always-excellent design blog AisleOne. He has included an option to view the posts in a grid which makes for a grid-a-licious vintage-inspired helvetica-heavy online graphic design experience.
At Copenhagen-based design studio Anni’s, you get your crispy clean editorial graphic design polybagged and presented neatly on a tasty green background.
Fellow Designers is the work of Stockholm design duo Paul Kuhlhom and Eva Lijefors. They have quaint little studio where they can look right across to one another and maybe engage in the occasional stare down stand off.

Swiss Graphic designer Ramon Lenherr has some excellent editorial print work in his Behance-folio. The use of black and white on the cover above is striking.
Rob Gonzalez and Jonathan Quainton have relaunched their website and refreshed their portfolio at Sawdust. Their cover of Novum served as a nice reminder to me as to where my priorities should be while I start my own studio.
I can’t tell much about Ross Berens after picking through his portfolio and his Flickr-folio but what I can gather is that he lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan and might still be a student. Beyond that what is really important is he is a talented designer and his series of posters titled ‘Under the Milky Way’ is exceptional and would look sweet hanging on any studio wall.
Design legend Dieter Rams became alarmed during the 80’s by a world consisting of ‘an impenetrable confusion of forms, colours and noises.’ So he looked inward and asked himself if he was a contributor or if his design was good design. As a result he penned what are sometimes referred to the ‘Ten Commandments’ in design. You can read them all at Vitsoe. You can also buy a beautiful poster from the Design Museum Shop detailing Rams principles.
Reykjavik based graphic designer and illustrator Siggeir Hafsteinsson has stayed busy and recently updated both his website and Behance-folio with several new projects. I’ve always been a fan of his work and am continually amazed by how prolific he is. I don’t think he ever sleeps. Ever.
Stockholm based design studio Chevy Chase not only has a compelling name but also has some equally compelling work covering the bases of logo design, identity, design manuals, yypography, web design, web development with CMS, digital identities, poster design, magazines, brochures, annual reports, packaging and imagery concepts. The kind of work that is compelling enough for them to have done a full creative blogosphere tour in the last week.
The one thing I want to know is if they have gotten a cease and desist from Chevy Chase’s agent yet.
