Everyone’s old art pal has taken to the streets, commenced sticking his finger in the pot and has begun stirring again. As always with Banksy’s work, expect moments of simple brilliance.

Jay Shaw calls himself ‘Iron Jaiden’ and has gathered quite a following on hardcore print and poster websites like Expresso Beans and OMG Posters (I know because I am one of the nerds who constantly frequents those websites and collects posters). You can see his excellent work at Kingdom of Nonsense. I was totally excited to recently discover that Jay is actually a resident of Denver, Colorado and his studio is just downtown. That excitement was compounded when I also discovered that he is hosting a silkscreen poster exhibition tomorrow night as a tribute to the amazing writer/director Sydney Lumet. The show was expertly curated by Jay himself and features some fantastic posters by artists like Kevin Ang and James Rheem Davis. You can see most of the posters in the show here at OMG posters. This is going to be a great event and it’s a little something new for the art scene here in Denver. So don’t miss out tomorrow night. I am planning on being there myself.
Here are the details:
Laundry on Lawrence
2701 Lawrence
Denver, Co
Doors open at 7. Be there or be square or at least miss out on that poster you are coveting.
Leftover posters will be sold at Jay’s online storefront the following day.
IdN Video v18n4 OPENING TITLE from NERDO on Vimeo.
Here’s what the Italian Motion Design studio Nerdo had to say about their recent project for IDN that involved a pretty eye-catching mashup of live action and 3D:
“One of the world’s most important design magazine gave us the opportunity to create the dvd opening titles for the outcoming issue ‘IdN Video v18n4’.
We had total freedom to give birth to a video without any restrictions, experimenting with techniques that we never used before.
It was a huge effort in a short time but we had a lot of fun and we learned so much.”
There is some seriously radical chrome action happening in the portfolio of Etienne Chaize. Lots of shiny, colorful and deliciously vector typography is on display and it’s a hell of a lot of fun to look at.
“A rogue with an eye for salvage – and the ladies – Ray: A Life Underwater is an affectionate portrait of one man’s deep sea diving career, told through his extraordinary collection of marine artefacts.
Like a modern-day pirate, 75-year-old Ray Ives has been scouring the seabed for treasure his whole life. The former commercial diver has plundered the deep for over fifty years, bringing to the surface anything that glittered — even gold. In a shipping container near the water, Ray tends his museum of cannon, bottles, bells, swords, portholes and diving gear.
He even still takes to the water in a 1900s diving suit.”
There is some seriously great cinematography happening in this mini-documentary.

Joshua Andrew Belanger creates illustrations that are wicked evil head-bangingly good. He also documents a lot of his process which is super informative if you are a digital illustrator. He captures his efforts in ‘speed drawing’ videos and there is a lot to pick up on with technique if you watch closely.
Homage is a clothing company that specializes in retro sports wear. I know you have probably heard or seen of similar companies but the unique differentiator here is that Homage’s stuff is actually super cool. Most of the tees are very simply designed but absolutely do not stray from the retro aesthetic. I’ll probably spring for the tee above at some point.
Michael Meier is a German illustrator and designer. He is also a cofounder and member of the publishing company rotopolpress in Kassel, Germany. He has a loose, interpretive style that starts from a sketch and is finished digitally.
The illustrator know as Von who made a name for himself with his airy, dreamy liquid-like graphite illustrations will be releasing a silkscreen print of one of his more well-known images from his ‘Semblance’ series. The print is a single screen metallic screen print and it looks like it will be beautiful in person. More details on purchasing the print can be found at Shopvon.

Don’t ask us dumb Americans how to pronounce Mateus Zkolek’s last name but his kinetic, colorful and simply drawn illustrations need no translation.
Just something we stumbled upon and though was cool. Nothing more. Nothing less.
“The film is set in post-nuclear Tokyo in a dimension not so distant from ours. Young salary-man’s morning commute takes a surreal turn.”
