Be Street

Comments Off on Be StreetFashion

‘Dope’ is a word I just don’t use much anymore. Probably because I am too old to use it or using it just makes me feel old or actually using it has fallen out of fashion and I am behind because I am old but I digress. ‘Sick’ is a word I just can’t get behind. It sounds lame. How did ‘sick’ ever become associated with something cool? I mean the word sick just sounds, well kind of gross or you know sick. Anyway, you can take your pick, ‘dope’ or if you have to go there ‘sick’ and either one will work perfectly to describe the shit hot t-shirts that French street boutique brand Be Street has put together. Straight up dope. There I said it. Now I’ll get on with my crusty old ass.

Must Warn Others

Comments Off on Must Warn OthersAdvertising

Must Warn Others is a new local Colorado production, direction and design shop that popped up on my radar while I was out of town and our website was down and dragged through the mud (long story to come soon). I have to be honest about almost being afraid to post their work since they are some pretty heavy competition for a shop like ours but the more the merrier here in Colorado. The market needs it bad around here and a studio of this caliber is just what the doctor ordered. So I have to ask and may as well do it in this post, do you guys want to work together on something because we think you kick ass.

Super Secret Pow Wow

Comments Off on Super Secret Pow WowIllustration

Super Secret Pow Wow is the drawing and illustration work of Britt Sanders who is ‘really good at drawing your girlfriend’. I think that last comment implies that Brit isn’t afraid of adding a little extra sex appeal to her work but he does it with some real style. I used to want to nut punch people in advertising who when wanting to have an impromptu meeting would decree ‘alright let’s pow wow’ now I want to nut punch people who say ‘well at the end of the day’ but I digress. I actually really like the tongue in cheek happening in the name ‘Super Secret Pow Wow’.

Comments Off on Curt MeloIllustration

Curt Melo is passionate about editorial illustration and by that he means he loves not just to create imagery for editorial use but create imagery that tells a story. He has a definite style but that style is employed to empower the image and communicate that story the end result of which is art.

Louis Lander-Deacon

Comments Off on Louis Lander-DeaconPhotography

You do well to remember the name Louis Lander-Deacon who at the age of 17 is responsible for some absolutely beautiful images. His photography taps into the subconscious in a way that a much older an more accomplished artist could only hope for over the course of a career. There’s no telling where he will go but it will definitely be fun to watch him get there. Keep an eye out.

Oil Addiction

Comments Off on Oil AddictionMotion Graphics

Chris Harmon was remembering all the way back to what seemed like forever ago last year when a massive oil spill drenched the sea with an absolutely unforgivable amount of sludge. How quickly we forget. After uncovering a bit of data fueled by that memory (pun intended) Harmon decided to create this animation to help detail just how addicted to oil we really are.

Hype For Type: Exclusives

Comments Off on Hype For Type: ExclusivesTypography

Hype for Type recently released another stellar pack of typefaces including ‘Nagasaki’ (my personal favorite) by Tom Muller. It looks like something you might have seen on the cover of a sci-fi novel from the 70’s. Hype for Type has been really smart about who they’ve worked with so far and this new series is a fine example of their careful curation of typographical talent (try and say that 3 times fast).

Philippe Chabot

Comments Off on Philippe ChabotArt

Philippe Chabot on his work, “My work deals with absurdity, dumbness, disenchantment, cult and decay. I am interested in the ways television, radio, web and entertainment culture affect our social and individual identities. I am also intrigued by the position of painting among all the other forms of visual media that surrounds us, and I believe that visual art, in its institutional format, is evolving away from the general public.”

I haven’t just flat out ‘liked’ someone’s fine art in a while as much as I like Chabot’s. It’s like a blender of Francis Bacon, Warhol, Jean Michel Basquiat and maybe just a hair of Walt Disney thrown in for seasoning. It’s everything I love combined.

Comments Off on Made ServiceGraphic Design

Aside from having quite possibly one of the most clever names I have run across in quite some time, bay area based design studio Made Service also has a strong portfolio of work that includes a healthy dose of both illustration and design. They also have an appreciation for extremely well made sandwiches.

Silver Screen Society

Comments Off on Silver Screen SocietyIllustration

Silver Screen Society is a group of designers and friends that work toward creating art and designs honoring the many stories told through the world of cinema. The project’s roots lie in the book clubs of yore, with each month bringing a new film and cast of contributors that carry with them their own unique interpretations and ideas.’

Hopefully these will someday be printed although rights issues associated with film are notoriously sticky.

Brighton-based illustrator Matthew James Taylor has a way with negative space and minimal vector art. The two combine to generate some memorable imagery that although may be designed with simplicity in mind leaves a complex and emotive impression on the viewer.

The Mountain

Comments Off on The MountainDirection

‘The Mountain’ was filmed between the 4th and 11th of April 2011 at El Teide, Spain’s highest mountain and the home of the Teide Observatory. “The goal (of Terje Sorgjerd) was to capture the beautiful Milky Way galaxy along with one of the most amazing mountains I know El Teide.” We may toil and labor after our complicated creations but nothing ever comes close to nature doing as it does.
