“Born in 1937 in Omaha, Nebraska, Edward Ruscha was raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where his family moved in 1941. In 1956 he moved to Los Angeles to attend the Chouinard Art Institute, and had his first solo exhibition in 1963 at the Ferus Gallery. In 1973, Ruscha began showing his work with Leo Castelli Gallery in New York. He continues to live and work in Los Angeles, and currently shows with Gagosian Gallery.
Ruscha has consistently combined the cityscape of his adopted hometown with vernacular language to communicate a particular urban experience. Encompassing painting, drawing, photography, and artist’s books, Ruscha’s work holds the mirror up to the banality of urban life and gives order to the barrage of mass media-fed images and information that confronts us daily. Ruscha’s early career as a graphic artist continues to strongly influence his aesthetic and thematic approach.”
Ruscha’s work has been out their circulating the typographical ether for some time now but has never been mentioned on this site. You can still see his influence on a lot of the young illustrative typographers working today.

Virginia Echeverria Whipple creates some unusual collages utilizing a touch of nostalgia with a dash of color.
The photography of German photographer Andreas Gefeller is mechanical, strategic, elaborate, and downright “I-wish-I-had-thought-of-it-first!” His ability to deliver such extensive studies speaks volumes as a contemporary artist. Featured here is part of his series, Supervisions.
Australian painter Jon Cattapan has lead a rich and experienced artistic life that has informed his work with figures materializing from ghostly orbs of color.
Mario Zoots is a Denver-based designer and artist currently enrolled in the Communication Design program at Metro. He has already generated work for both Urban Outfitters and NYLON. He has also been published in Rojo (Barcelona )and Cafe Royal (U.K.). Apparently he is looking for a gig here in Denver. Please, lets try to keep him here.
Self taught oil painter, illustrator and photographer, Mattijn Franssen has developed a magnificent catalogue of work, most specifically his fanciful photo montage work! He also maintains a Flickr page thats worth a look.

Via (one of my favorites) Today and Tomorrow.
Italian artist Mauro Perucchetti is responsible for some of the most amazing, striking and provacative sculpture and object art that I have seen in some time. It’s a little bit of sex with a touch of violence mixed up with whole lotta pop. I think I like it.
Andrea Crews is fashion, art, activism, a shop and a creative agency plus a whole lotta I don’t even know what. Craziness I guess. I have no idea what to file them under.
Brooklyn-based artist Vince Contarino has some amazing use of color happening within his abstract drawings, paintings and collages. Beautiful work.
