Toy: Left Myself Behind

Comments Off on Toy: Left Myself BehindMusic

I am really digging these guys. It’s a little tough to drum up information about them just yet since they are pretty fresh on the scene but I’ve got my ear to the ground for the release of their first album.

“HVN233 – TOY ‘Left Myself Behind’
Directed by Mark Donne
Director of Photography Joe Morris.

TOY is a Korg Delta led five-piece formed in 2010. It consists of Tom Dougall (Vox/Guitars), Dominic O’Dair (Guitars), Maxim Barron (Bass/Vox), Alejandra Diez (Synthesizers/Modulation) and Charlie Salvidge (Drums/Vox). TOY’s musical influences incorporate a wide range of genres including punk, psychedelia, krautrock, post rock to name a few and they explore experimental recording techniques in the studio.

With the majority of 2010 spent writing, TOY played their first show at the Cave Club in Islington earlier this year. Since then the band have played a string of live performances including Field Day and 1234 festivals and have supported bands such as The Horrors and The Pretty Things. Their first single – Left Myself Behind – is out now. “

Adam Batchelor and Christopher Joyner have created an online gallery currently based in the east of England called W.E.L.C.O.M.E. There is some interesting work being represented so far and the venture looks promising considering the cache of talent. The ‘sole purpose’ of the gallery is in providing a new and innovative space for young upcoming artists to showcase and sell print editions of their work.

The Dead Wrestler Society

Comments Off on The Dead Wrestler SocietyArt

Alright this is just one more reason that as a new studio ourselves, we are totally inspired and motivated by studios like I Love Dust. Out of a sheer love for kitsch and art they have put together an exhibition devoted to the colorful characters known only as professional wrestlers and have specifically dedicated the show to members of said part that have departed the land of the living. The event is called The Dead Wrestler Society and will be exhibiting at The Aspex Gallery in Gunwharf Quays, PORTSMOUTH with a preview 21 September 6pm – 8pm and the full showing from 21 September to 30 October 2011. I so wish I could attend this one. What a great idea.

Fires Over London

Comments Off on Fires Over LondonWorld

Itdrewitself created this timelapse video showing the fires over London after the riots that erupted last week. I have to say that what happened shocked me. I have been thinking of going to England for a week or so this fall just because I enjoyed the time I spent there so much last time I visited. It saddens me to see that the disparity between rich and poor, the uncertainty about the future and the dismal state of the Western economy has inspired the youth to behave so violently. I am surprised something like this hasn’t happened yet in the U.S. Time magazine has already released a cover with the headline ‘The Decline and Fall of Europe”. I hope that isn’t what we are witnessing. I think it’s getting harder to hide the truth that money, economy and trading is all based on a broad assumption of acceptance and agreement in the belief of an orderly system. Intrinsically we all know money has no real value except what value people agree that it has. Maybe the reality is just finally becoming too difficult to uphold and it’s time for a new reality. One thing is for certain the wealth gap has become a real problem and someone has to answer for it. You can fool some people sometime but you can’t fool all the people all the time.

In the meantime, our hearts go out to those that are so angry that they decided to behave in such a manner and our thoughts go equally with those who were injured and robbed. Unfortunately it seems that the anger is once again misdirected and those who should really answer for the current state of affairs are still avoiding justice while we fight amongst ourselves.

Louis Lander-Deacon

Comments Off on Louis Lander-DeaconPhotography

You do well to remember the name Louis Lander-Deacon who at the age of 17 is responsible for some absolutely beautiful images. His photography taps into the subconscious in a way that a much older an more accomplished artist could only hope for over the course of a career. There’s no telling where he will go but it will definitely be fun to watch him get there. Keep an eye out.

maddisongraphicposter.jpg

Maddison Graphic is a small design studio formed by brothers Edward and Alfie Maddison based in Ely, Cambridgeshire. They have recently updated with some new work to their portfolio including this absolutely lovely little poster they printed and mailed to us. We were thrilled as it is clearly a striking and colorful piece of design. Now we just have to find a proper frame since we don’t use the isometric paper system here across the pond. Thank you so much for the poster guys. We love it.
