Rob Gonzalez and Jonathan Quainton have relaunched their website and refreshed their portfolio at Sawdust. Their cover of Novum served as a nice reminder to me as to where my priorities should be while I start my own studio.

I can’t tell much about Ross Berens after picking through his portfolio and his Flickr-folio but what I can gather is that he lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan and might still be a student. Beyond that what is really important is he is a talented designer and his series of posters titled ‘Under the Milky Way’ is exceptional and would look sweet hanging on any studio wall.
Design legend Dieter Rams became alarmed during the 80’s by a world consisting of ‘an impenetrable confusion of forms, colours and noises.’ So he looked inward and asked himself if he was a contributor or if his design was good design. As a result he penned what are sometimes referred to the ‘Ten Commandments’ in design. You can read them all at Vitsoe. You can also buy a beautiful poster from the Design Museum Shop detailing Rams principles.
Reykjavik based graphic designer and illustrator Siggeir Hafsteinsson has stayed busy and recently updated both his website and Behance-folio with several new projects. I’ve always been a fan of his work and am continually amazed by how prolific he is. I don’t think he ever sleeps. Ever.
Stockholm based design studio Chevy Chase not only has a compelling name but also has some equally compelling work covering the bases of logo design, identity, design manuals, yypography, web design, web development with CMS, digital identities, poster design, magazines, brochures, annual reports, packaging and imagery concepts. The kind of work that is compelling enough for them to have done a full creative blogosphere tour in the last week.
The one thing I want to know is if they have gotten a cease and desist from Chevy Chase’s agent yet.
Venezualan designer Yker Moreno who now resides in Brooklyn and works for one of my most favorite places in the whole wide world, Buck has updated with a few new projects and a new website.
Oslo-based multidisciplinary design studio Heydays has been busy and updated with a slew of new print and branding work this week. All of which is meticulously photographed (a skill in and of itself) and looks stunning. Their bold simple use of color makes their work pop.
South African designer and illustrator Adam The Velcro Suit has been busy lately and made some updates to his Flickr-folio. There has been some great looking gig posters recently added, still rocking on the vintage tip but that old school inspired eye candy looks sweet.
Bay area native Alex Varanese has an unusual style all his own. I have seen his work before and posted it in prior versions of the blog but he has been staying busy and recently updated with a new series of experimental typographical layouts. He obviously has a fetish for the color orange, that much is easy to figure out and he has a thing for cassette tapes and the 80s. He is also very good at rendering 3d type and image. The one thing that you might not pick up on right away until spending a little time surfing around his site is that he also has a great sense of humor. He may or may not know that he is also a good writer. What I’m trying to say is this guy’s got some skills and I am picking up on what he is layin’ down.
I have officially resigned my position as Art Director at Cactus Communications in Denver. My Creative Director and I decided it was time for me to do what has needed to be done and amicably part ways to allow me to begin focusing all of my attention on Changethethought. The nearly 4 years I spent at Cactus has been one of the best times I have ever had in the creative industry. I leave behind some very close friends and people I respect very highly. I will miss them every day as I start out on this new venture. They have been amazingly supportive of my efforts to launch Changethethought as a design studio and I will continue to seek their advice as I start out on my own.
I will begin working on remodeling my studio next week where I will now be running Changethethought. I have a few small creative client projects planned already for 2010. We will also be launching a new website this spring. The new website will be much more robust than the current version offering much more in terms of content and usability. We will also now be able to focus much more quality time on delivering better content. Soon we will be seeking more authors for the blog.
We have full capabilities as a design studio and are currently seeking project work. If you are interested in hiring us for your next project please send an email to hire(at)changethethought.com. We will be focusing our efforts on 3 branches, creative inspiration, creative merchandising and creative services. We will also be focused on enriching the creative community in Denver and are already involved in working toward planning and hosting events in 2010.
We are also currently seeking sponsorship for the next version of the site. Please contact us if you would like to see our current analytics and are interested in supporting us. Cheers to 2010.
‘Rising star’ designer (according to Computer Arts) Jessica Walsh has updated with a new website and some stunning work that incorporates photographic sets into editorial print. Her portfolio is bursting with color and she is indeed living up to her praise.
Ryan Hurley is a freelance graphic designer currently based in East London. He gained experience working agencies in Amsterdam and has a healthy portfolio as a result. I love the Lettre Clock he created above which you can also purchase here.
Artiva is a studio based in Genoa, Italy that is comprised of designers Daniele De Batté and Davide Sossi. They have some beautiful work for print in their collective portfolio.
It was all the way back in the summer of 2008 that I first mentioned the work of Shaz Madani. He has been very busy since then. Madani has spent time at studios and agencies like The Partners, Why Not Associates and Mind Design. His experience shows in his beautiful print work and any designer would be jealous of some of the pieces he produced for Topshop.
Atelier Aquarium has updated with some colorful yet cleanly executed new project work. The series of exhibition invitation for Galerie Néon are a standout.
Task Focused is the graphic design work of Melbourne based designer Rob Cordiner. I have posted his work before on past versions of the blog but that was a long time ago and he has since updated with several new projects.
Re:collection is an inventory of Australian graphic design produced between 1960 and 1980 subjectively curated according to the tastes of Dominic Hofstede.
I posted a link to designer and typographer Sean Freeman just last week to showcase a project he recently completed with Pomme Chan. I didn’t realize however that he had just updated his website with a lot of new work. His type illustrations are top notch and just downright fun to look at which is no doubt because of his commitment to the final product.
