Artist and illustrator Raymond Lemstra has crafted some unusual creatures that draw influence from Mayan and Native American art. He’s skilled with the pencil though and that is really only a glimpse of what he can do. He has several interesting works throughout his portfolio.

Talented Icelandic designer Jónas Valtýsson has updated with new work added to his portfolio. Jónas is originally from Reykjavík but now resides in Mosfellsbær ‘where the mountains see everything and the trees keep secrets’. He has recently began freelancing and is currently looking for new project work. In my opinion, he’s only just getting warmed up and I’d expect to see even more amazing work from him in the future.

Shape Anatomy is the work of Italian designer and illustrator Valerio Vittozzi. The newer work in his portfolio consists primarily of classic Roman sculpture intermingled with not-so-classic three dimensional graffiti forms. It makes for an interesting juxtaposition of forms.

Paris based multidisciplinary design platform Ill-Studio has updated their website with several new works for clients like Uniqlo and Nike. They have continued doing some excellent and clean work that suggests a stylistic approach but changes according to the solution desired for the project and the client.

Skizzomat is a Berlin-based illustration and design run studio by Marie Luise Emmermann. Her fashion photo cut-outs arrange body-parts into strange configurations that still uphold something elegant from the original image. You can see her work at both her studio website or at her blogspot website.

Artist and illustrator Andres Guzman has been busy lately and has recently uploaded some wonderful new works to his blog. Originally born in Lima, Peru he spent most of his youth in Denver, Colorado before attending the Minneapolis School of Art and Design to earn a degree in illustration. He’s a talented guy and I would recommend keeping an eye out for him in the future. He has already worked with some big clients. He also has an art exhibition with Justin Renteria Friday Nov. 5th at IndyInk in downtown Denver. The show starts at 7 and runs until 11. You can learn all you need to know about the show at Indyink’s website.

Illustrator David Huyck has created some fun looping animated gifs just in time to celebrate Halloween. They are deceptively simple in how they are rendered but the actual animations are pretty clever.

I just stumbled upon the work of Cristiana Couceiro again today and was once again super impressed by her work. She has found an interesting space between mid-century and international typographic style that seems to somehow work perfectly. She is sticking to her guns on maintaining that style as well much to the chagrin of the design community I am sure. It would be great to see her start up a store where some prints of her work could be made available too. I’d imagine they’d do well on the walls of a mid-century styled home or office.

It’s a perfect blend of detail and simplicity that manages to maintain iconic simplicity. That is not an easy thing to do and Docherty has inspiring style for miles.

Creative writer Matthew Newton has a great interview up with Sam Green at the moment. He’s one of my favorite illustrators and has been from since he started. He’s an interesting character and seems like a cool guy as well. Newton is doing an amazing job with the interviews at Cpluv and checking back to his column is always a good idea for the design and illustration-inclined. It’s nice to see a serious journalist taking the time to highlight some of our industry’s more unique talent.

Ashkahn Shahparnia (pronounced Ash-Con-Shaw-par-neeyah) makes fun and funny things. Despite their deceptively simple appearance there is some interesting thinking bubbling cynically just under the surface of all of his work. It’s a funny but provocative affair and he recently updated with all kinds of new goodies, most of which would definitely illicit a response between giver and receiver. I wonder, is Purple Rain made out of Purple Drank?

Straight up weird but fascinating illustrations are pouring from the hand of Tim Enthoven including the above beer drinking hipster dad intellectuals. It’s hard to gather if Enthoven has a real point of view but he does have the chops to put out some curious imagery.
