Graphic designer Erik Carter sent his clean portfolio of work in for us to look at a week or two back. It’s a simple body of work but manages a considered aesthetic that bodes well for future projects. The black and white is quite striking and I personally dig the work for Staple.
London based design consultancy (I like that ‘design consultancy’ [note to self: call Ctt a ‘design consultancy’]) Inventory Studio has updated with a new website and have also put a heap of new work in their portfolio.
These posters designed by Build were originally created and printed for now-defunct Australian magazine Refill. And now you can buy one of the leftovers. It’s a hot-looking item and apparently supplies are limited so get your hustle on.
Sydney based creative agency PDC Creative has some simply beautiful print and packaging work in their portfolio. They are equally skilled at presenting this work as well with closeup sexy graphic design print-porn photos that display a meticulous eye for detail..
Masato Nakada is a freelance graphic designer and a grad student at CalArts who is currently based in Valencia, California. The second that Nakada’s website loads into your browser you know it’s serious business as you are immediately invited into looking at an overview of an excellent body of graphic design work.
Local Boulder graphic designer Justin Fuller is the co-founder of Table 2 Press and also has a skilled hand when it comes to graphic design. He has some clean and crisp work in his portfolio that is not lacking in personality and somehow manages to maintain a hint ‘of Colorado-ness’. You local peeps will know what I mean. It makes for a fun body of likeable work.
Design studio Ohyescoolgreat has does indeed yes have some cool and great print work in their portfolio. They prefer to keep their approach simple and classic and hence have a body of work that signifies that philosophy. The result is some clean and cracking design for print.
Designer and motionographer Dimo Trifonov emailed us the ‘he exists and this is my portfolio’. Hmm. Well he does indeed exist, has done some interesting work and here is indeed his portfolio. Thanks for the email Dimo.
Argentinian design studio NASA have updated with both a brand new website and several new works in their portfolio. It’s a trendy display but they have pulled in some really great clients for themselves and really have it dialed in on how to present their work.
Chicken Billy is artist and designer Billy Hayes hailing from Fort Worth, Texas. He has an unusual and highly recognizable style using aggressive color schemes with arranged flat graphic ‘puzzle’ pieces. This is how he describes his work: “The recipe – Take Hanna Barbera, Hulk Hogan, James Brown, Fort Worth Zoo, B.B. King, Hank Williams III and Jesus Christ, mix until the image is bright like a angel. Add a pair of cowboy boots and jeans, some Mexican beer, your choice, and put it all on a page using only flat vector shapes.”
His work is impossible not to like and ready made for t-shirt art. The best way to take in his work is by perusing his Flickr-folio which he updates regularly.
German design studio Visualism has a small but very considered body of work. There are all kinds of fun, clean and beautiful things happening within their portfolio and I would definitely keep a keen eye on what new projects they add in the coming months. It might be a short list of projects as of now but it’s mighty.
Brazilian design and photography studio Grima has a small but interesting body of work. There is not a lot in their book but what is there shows that they have a wide range of capabilities and take a unique approach to each project.
The second issue of Process Journal is now available (and has been for a bit, I missed the email I originally got with the announcement) and features the work of Alt Group, It’s Nice That, Studio Round, Manual, Three60, Fançois Rappo, Greg White, Modern Publicity, Artiva Design, Andreas Pihlström, Frost* Design, Claudia Klat and Gavillet & Rust. As well as design responses from Samuel Moffat (Studio Paradise) and Kris Lane (Alt Group). It looks oh-so-nice.
I don’t know how long ago Sydney based design agency Toko updated their website and portfolio but it doesn’t really matter. New or not, it’s worth looking into to get a glimpse at some genuinely inspiring design work bridging the gap with design as an artform. There is some sincerely beautiful work in their portfolio, including some excellent typographical work and that’s about all I have to say about that.
Brazilian design agency Pianofuzz sent in a link to their interesting work that lives within an equally interesting website. I am not entirely sure, to be totally honest, if I like their website but it is different and in a way makes you more curious about who they are and what they do.
Graphic designer Paul Tebbott was recently inspired by Roy Batty’s monologue at the end of Bladerunner and produced an absolutely gorgeous surreal poster as a result of that inspiration. I can’t say how much I love this poster. I am going to order one to hang in my studio over our couch. It’s beautiful. It reminds me a bit of a Salvidor Dali painting and although it is simple in execution, there is an enormous amount of spiritual depth in the piece. You can purchase a copy in his online store. Excellent work Mr. Tebbott.
